The Role:

We have long term placement opportunities available for Band 5 Pharmacist available at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, specifically providing the following:
  • To provide quality, effective pharmacy services to improve patient care including technical and clinical services, and to assist in education and training of pharmacy and nursing staff.
  • To administer medication safely and in a timely manner as part of the routine medicines round in the prison.
  • To promote further development of the pharmacy technician's role within the Trust.


Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the northwest of England and beyond. We also provide Health and Justice Services in a number of custodial settings.

The Trust employs around 5,700 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 150 locations. Over a 12-month period, we see in the region of 53,000 service users.

The Trust's performance is scrutinised by the Foundation Trust regulator, NHS Improvement, and the Care Quality Commission.

To apply for this post, you will:
  • Needs to have 6 months of NHS experience within last 2 years.
  • Needs to be registered with GPhC as a Pharmacist.
  • The candidate should have Prison Clearance and an Enhanced DBS.
  • Provision of a quality service, demonstrating reliability in routine dispensing of medication and skill in non-routine tasks e.g., advising patients/cares on medication issues or handling routine drug queries.
  • Carry out medicines administration on allocated wings, signposting queries to relevant departments and keeping a complete record on the electronic administration system.
  • Participation in dispensing and accuracy checking of dispensed items.
  • Development of and participation in wing-based duties to include medicines reconciliation, assessment of PODs and liaising with other healthcare professionals to gather relevant information on current medication and compliance status of new and long-term prisoners.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of policies and procedures within the department and those impacting across services e.g., Medicines Management Policy.
  • Supervise and train new starters, apprentices, assistants, qualified or student technicians in the provision of an effective and efficient pharmacy services.
  • Deliver post graduate level training to pre-registration pharmacy graduates and qualified nursing staff.
