Job Details

Roles and responsibilities for this post include, but are not exclusive to, the following:
  • ABEL® Kit manufacture and dispatch - picking reagents and packing kits with great care and attention to detail. Arranging pick-ups with couriers. Adjusting component stock levels, and performing regular stock checks. Reporting incidents of items low in stock to line manager.
  • ABEL® component production, following strict production protocols.
  • Quality control of ABEL® components using ABEL® assays. Reporting of results to line manager.
  • Assist in contract testing & research activities under supervision and instruction of senior colleagues. This will include meticulously recording and presenting results from experiments so that they can be presented to senior colleagues for interpretation.
  • Stock/inventory checking of general laboratory consumables - ensuring that the laboratory is well stocked and resourced. This also applies to the other areas on site including the office areas, kitchen and bathroom.
  • Assist in placing purchase orders as instructed by senior colleagues.
  • Regular maintenance/calibration of standard laboratory equipment.
  • Maintenance of laboratory cleanliness and tidiness. This also includes the kitchen, storeroom and bathroom. All members of staff have the same responsibility.
  • Anything else that is deemed within your capabilities by your senior colleagues, based on your general performance at work and your previous experience.

Desired qualifications

Entry requirements are agreed and set, based on numerous factors including availability of additional on-the-job support, by both the employer and NCH. As such, entrance requirements may vary between apprenticeships.

Typically, employers require:
  • Three A levels (or equivalent at BBB or above) of which one subject must be Biology
  • At least Grade 4/C GCSE Maths, English and IT
  • Some applicants may not have traditional qualifications as listed above, and have prior learning and skills developed from the workplace, these will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Apprentices will also need to meet the government's eligibility criteria.

Location of vacancy - due to location and travel times of local roads, it is recommended that apprentices live within a reasonable distance of the vacancyor consider relocation.
