The Pharmacy Department is looking to recruit 2 Advanced Apprentice Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians with one commencing 4th January 2022 and the second commencing on 4th April 2022.

This is a training post designed to give the trainee the experience and knowledge to be able to qualify, register and work as a Pharmacy Technician and is a stepping stone to a wider career in Pharmacy. The apprentice is supported throughout training and work experience, and with support, will learn to complete a range of tasks within timescales to a competent standard. They are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to quickly learn new IT systems, be able to work efficiently and accurately, pay attention to detail and also enjoy working as part of a team.

They will be supported to gain the qualification which is delivered by our training provider, Buttercups Training, and is achieved through distance learning and study via virtual classrooms. Study time will be available during your working week.

Career opportunities following qualification and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (the regulatory body for Pharmacy) include medicines management roles, aseptic preparation, staff training, clinical trials, procurement, and many more. This is an opportunity to have fabulous career and once qualified salaries range from £22,549 on qualifying to a possible £53,219 as your career progresses.

This position is for a 26 month fixed term contract with no guarantee of a substantive Pharmacy Technician post, although every effort will be made to find a suitable position once qualified. The post is full time Monday to Friday and will include participation in our Late Night, Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holiday rotas.

You will need to be highly committed to achieve this qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program. Individuals will need to be highly organised, self-motivated and capable of meeting multiple deadlines.

Minimum entry requirements:-

5 GCSE's (or equivalent) at Grade 4-9 or A-C to include English Language, Maths and Science (preferably Chemistry or Biology) or Dual Science

It is essential that you meet the criteria and grade for the qualifications as detailed above. Your application will be rejected if you do not list in the 'Qualifications' section the qualifications and grades obtained that clearly identify the level of Maths, English Language and Science achieved.

Please note: Applicants must meet all apprenticeship eligibility criteria listed below:
  • Must be a UK or EEA citizen and have lived in the county for the last 3 years or a non EEA/UK citizen with right to work in the county with evidence that you have lived in the UK for the previous 3 years.
  • Must NOT be in full time education by starting date of apprenticeship.
  • Must NOT hold an equivalent or higher previous qualification in a related subject to the apprenticeship being offered.

The post has a salary of £8385 in the first year; 2nd year to be paid as per apprentice scheme rates (age dependent).

Prior to an interview being offered, candidates that meet all of the minimum entry criteria and the apprentice eligibility criteria will be invited to attend and complete pre-screening assessments in maths - 81 questions (a mixture of multiple choice and text based) - which takes 90-120 minutes , English - 91 questions (a mixture of multiple choice and text based) which takes 90-120 minutes and science - 60 multiple choice questions based on chemistry and biology which is timed for 60 minutes to assess current level of knowledge.

Candidates who successfully complete the pre-screening assessments will then be invited to interview.
