The Mare Nostrum Group is an experienced, full service publishing company providing dynamic distribution, sales, marketing, data management, and consultancy services to commercial and university press academic publishers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific. Based in the UK with an in-house team of 20 employees, we provide a fully collaborative service which aims to complement and extend the work of our client publishers.

The group is split into two divisions with distinct offerings:

Mare Nostrum (MN) offers print & digital distribution, sales, marketing, and business consultancy services to academic publishers. MN has exclusive contracts with many leading academic publishers, including Brill Publishing, De Gruyter, Macmillan Higher Education, SAGE Publishing, Thieme Publishing, and World Scientific.

Combined Academic Publishers (CAP) offers distribution, sales, and marketing services for both print & digital product exclusively to American University Presses. CAP has exclusive contracts for many prestigious American University Presses, including Duke University Press, Stanford University Press, New York University Press, and Indiana University Press.

The Role:

Mare Nostrum Group is offering an exciting degree apprenticeship opportunity for an ambitious school leaver, graduate or supply chain worker looking to upskill.

Office responsibilities will include:
  • Validating existing data, & assisting with the creation of new data regarding stocks & orders of books
  • Use of in-house database & Excel data
  • Process and track all client orders for books, quickly & efficiently
  • Ensuring accuracy of sales order data, transferring & updating order data into the in-house tracking system, & onward monitoring of shipments
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure deliveries are carried out
  • Communicating with clients and partners via phone and email

Skills and qualifications required:
  • Strong organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail and a solid work ethic
  • Experience of data entry and administration tasks
  • Good numerical skills and ability to use spreadsheets to analyse data
  • A competent user of the Microsoft Office applications with strong Excel skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with both internal and external customers
  • Minimum requirement for the apprenticeship is a C or above in GCSE Maths and English

Advantages of doing a work-based apprenticeship:
  • Successful apprentices will gain a BSc (Hons) degree in Supply Chain Leadership after 3.5 years, plus a wealth of relevant work experience in the business of supply chain management.
  • The degree programme will be free of charge to the apprentice as the programme is supported through the Apprenticeship Levy.
  • Apprenticeships are designed by industry professionals.
