This exciting role allows you to deliver clinical excellence, improve patient outcomes, and provide a positive patient experience.

Following an initial classroom based course, as an Apprentice Emergency Medical Technician you will continue your apprenticeship and learning whilst out on the road responding to emergency calls as a valued member of the Trust's frontline team.

If you are highly motivated, passionate and caring and want to be part of an innovative, responsive service this role is for you. You will be supported through a full training programme and provided with ongoing support in your operational role. You will receive a salary allowing you to earn as you learn.

The duration of the apprenticeship 12-18 months. Those that successfully complete the course will then automatically be eligible to continue in a qualified Emergency Medical Technician role with the Trust.

Due the nature of Emergency Services it is recommended that your commute to your base location should be within the hour.

Successful candidates will:
  • Have English and Maths GCSE Grade C or equivalent, or a pass in Functional Skills Level 2. Candidates invited to interview will need bring certificates to evidence necessary entry qualifications.
  • Have a full UK manual driving licence with a minimum of 1 years driving experience ( maximum of 3 penalty points for minor motoring offences only )
  • Have a valid and eligible residency status
  • Have their own transport to attend training and work
  • Demonstrate experience in dealing with a range of age and social groups
  • Demonstrate understanding of compassion, respect and dignity through patient centered care
  • Show dedication, motivation and drive ensuring you take ownership of your own learning.
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to upholding EEAST Values of Care, Teamwork, Quality, Respect & Honesty.
  • Successful applicants who do not hold the provisional C1 will be required to obtain their provisional C1 licence within 3 months of their start date (as part of the conditional offer). Candidates must provide confirmation that they have applied to the DVLA for the provisional CL licence and must subsequently confirm when they have received the provisional licence. We expect candidates to have received their provisional C1 within 3 months of start date.
  • New starters will have the opportunity to complete their C1 prior to undertaking driver training. Candidates/New Starters will be expected to achieve the Full C1 category within 12 weeks of completing their training course.

Occupational Health:

Applicants are advised that EEAST adheres to the recommendations of the Department of Health Medical Advisory Panel relating to health standards for frontline emergency response roles. Please refer to DVLA Assessing fitness to drive - a guide for medical professionals , for detailed information.

Disclosure and Barring Service check:

This position involves regulated activity which will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at enhanced level with child and adult barred list check.

Starting Salary - £18, 575.94 per annum (NHS T&C Training Salary of 70% of top of Agenda for Change Band 4, currently £17,417.40 per annum adjusted for living wage)

Once qualified moving to Band 4 £22,549 per annum (April 2021/22 Pay Rates).

After the initial training period, this post currently attracts enhancements for weekend and unsocial hours working at various rates, as per Section 2 of Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.

Please note: During the training course it is your responsibility to attend in full, on each day. Accommodation and travel expenses will not be provided so you will need to consider the costs and travel expense of attending. Candidates will be allocated to the training centre nearest to their operational base where possible.
