Learn the project management principles to Drive project / program execution, to maximize the results with respect to cash and margin whilst understanding delivery of projects on time, in conformity with the contract / Program Charter according to Customer expectations and the requirements on EHS.

Understand the value to seek additional opportunities in the frame of the contract / Program Charter with awareness to ensure Alstom Transport legal and contractual rights are protected.

Over a 4-year program, you will combine academic Universitystudies with real life work-based experience across our organisation. You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.

Purpose of the Job:
  • To be part of and support the project management community within Alstom who are responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a project or a subset of a project dependant on the complexity and criticality to the business
  • The project management community take responsibility for delivering the project in line with defined objectives, taking decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by leading a multi-skilled, cross-disciplinary team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements

Key Duties:
  • Developing and documenting components of projects as required by the Project Team
  • Cost estimating, analysis and control activities
  • Scheduling development, maintenance and monitoring
  • Risk, assumptions, issues, dependencies and opportunities management
  • Earned value management analysis and control activities
  • Development of workforce planning and staffing plans
  • Providing data to support business cases, strategic plans, customer presentations
  • Gaining an overview from PMs of bid evaluation and contract negotiations
  • Building and maintaining a network of internal business contacts and peers to share and gain knowledge and identify opportunities to learn and develop
  • Owning and being responsible for personal and professional development across the business
  • Building awareness and understanding of how Project Controls functions (including PC sub-functions) work with PM and the wider business

Day to day responsibilities:
  • Support the Project Manager on the status of planned project items
  • To ensure tasks are completed in line with Alstom standards and policies
  • Ensure tasks are completed to Alstom EHS procedures
  • Support the management of people, time, plant, materials, and sub-contractors in line with the Project Execution Plan and programme
  • Maintain supplier relations in line with the Alstom Supply Chain Management Policy
  • Communicate programme requirements to staff
  • Draft written reports, e. g. accident investigation, periodic progress reports
  • Carry out Document Control activities as required to support the works
  • Assist in the management of internal interfaces with Testing, Design andInstallation etc.
  • Support the Project Manager with the input of Project risks in line the Alstom Risk Management System
  • It may be required that some travel and shift pattern changes will be necessary to fully perform some of your duties / activities

  • You are a good team leader with excellent communication skills so that everyone knows what is expected of them
  • You are organised and can prioritise some tasks over others
  • Can create a budget and work within that budget


Personal qualities

  • You can work under pressure to meet, sometimes, tight deadlines
  • You can think quickly and make last minute decisions to ensure the project is on track when things go wrong
  • You don't mind travelling around. Many project management jobs are office-based but others could require you to visit sites or have meetings with clients elsewhere
  • You are prepared to work extra hours on occasion to ensure on time completion of a project


Desired qualifications

  • 3 A Levels ideally in IT, Computer Science, or Engineering. OR BTEC Extended Diploma in Business/IT/Science/Engineering
  • 5 GCSE grade 9-5 / A*-Cincluding English and maths


Future prospects

  • Alstom offer opportunities to extend apprenticeship learning through to Degree and Chartered status is the candidate is suitable and the business need exists
