Applications are invited for a 6 month fixed term locum post of a full-time (10 PA) Consultant in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine, with a view to a substantive post. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed colleague to join our rapidly growing, cohesive and dynamic department. You will work alongside eight substantive Consultant colleagues, who will provide support in your new role. The post is primarily based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with additional clinical commitments at Wycombe Hospital. Buckinghamshire is commutable from major cities of Oxford and West London.

The Respiratory team won the Trust award of Acute Healthcare team of the Year; and the Consultant Lead won the Trust Leadership award in 2021.

We are looking to expand to provide a training for our formal Respiratory Specialist Unit for NIV, which is in place now; to aid our admission avoidance service; and to support respiratory outpatients to. All applicants within 6 months of CCT at interview date are welcome and all other subspecialist interests would be considered, and mentored. Less than full time working will be considered and welcomed.

The Respiratory Team has approximately 45 inpatients. 2 consultants run the 2 wards on rotation. 3 registrars and 2 IMT from the HETV/Oxford rotation and 9 juniors support the wards. We provide COPD and COVID early supported discharge.

We have weekend daytime on call for the respiratory wards giving 7/7 Respriatory cover; and take part in the acute general medicine on call during the week. There has been a large investment in Acute Medicine with a reconfiguration of the urgent care pathway, and appointment of new Acute Physicians. Sub-specialty outpatient clinics exist for lung cancer, pleural, cough/airways and TB. We work very much as a team of consultants with MDT meetings, and have commitment to teaching all grades of doctors.

There are two Pulmonary Physiology Labs including CPET, headed by a Clinical Scientists. EBUS bronchoscopy is established weekly. We are supported by an excellent Radiology dept with 5 dedicated Thoracic radiologists. Thoracic surgery is provided for us by Harefield Hospital. Oncology services are on site and radiotherapy in Oxford. Our tertiary referral centres are the Royal Brompton and Oxford Hospitals.
