About the apprenticeship

Duties

•Assisting the payroll team with payroll processing

•Collating client data with regard to payroll processing

•Assisting clients with bookkeeping, VAT and tax requirements

•Preparing supporting working papers for accounts production

•Reporting directly to the firm's Client Managers and Managing Director

•Maintaining close working relationships with your client portfolio to ensure all necessary processes are carried out within the agreed timescales and all filing deadlines are met

•Ensuring colleagues dealing with joint clients are kept fully updated of all changes and updates to any clients' situations, to guarantee consistency of services provided to clients

•Interaction with all staff members within the organisation

•Maintaining accurate and efficient records at all times

•Achieve agreed personal targets and assist respective teams to achieve team targets

•Keeping up to date with your knowledge of payroll and accountancy matters, regulatory updates and changes in legislation and attending necessary training webinars and courses

•Complying with CPD requirements as identified by DWA or professional bodies

•Immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the organisation and/or its clients/customers to the Client Manager or Managing Director

•Ensuring any money laundering issues are reported to the firm's MLRO

•Adhere to all organisation policies and procedures

Additional information

You will be responsible for carrying out the important role of Trainee Payroll & Finance Administrator, supporting and working closely with our Client Managers to provide our clients with expert financial information and advice.

Your role will be split between the Payroll department, providing an outsourced payroll bureau to our clients; and the Accounts department, providing bookkeeping and basic accounting support to our client base. You will be a valuable and integral part of the team.

Reporting directly to the Client Managers and Director to provide an efficient and professional service as one of the first points of contact in the business.

You will also be required to attend networking events as and when required as well as keeping up to date with social media and marketing skills to promote yourself and the company.

•The ideal candidate will be dynamic, ambitious and looking to make a significant contribution to the firm. You will demonstrate teamworking skills, innovative thinking and a desire to make a difference.

•You will possess the desire to achieve a strong grasp of payroll and accountancy systems and business operations, a good telephone manner and equally relevant in the current climate, a professional video conferencing manner. You will naturally have a welcoming personality together with the ability to deal persuasively with clients and other callers.

•A high standard of mathematical skills is essential, as are strong verbal and written communication skills. A level of at least intermediate computer skills, such as Office365 and Excel, are necessary in order to properly use spreadsheets and databases, and to keep documents up to date and produce accurate correspondence.

•Ideally you will be educated to A-level or equivalent and may also be required to hold relevant accountancy qualifications. You must have the ability to develop a detailed knowledge of regulations and compliance matters. Strong analytical skills are required, as is the ability to problem solve and discuss with, and offer solutions to, clients.

•The candidate will be an excellent team player and a good communicator. You must be able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines, be able to manage your own time efficiently and delegate work effectively. The ability to liaise with clients and team members alike, and to recognise priorities is a must.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
