Higher Level Pharmacy Assistant

We are looking to recruit experienced, enthusiastic and well-motivated individuals to join our friendly team of pharmacy assistants who provide a range of pharmaceutical services in this busy acute hospital Trust. Applicants must hold a NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical Services and GCSE grade C or equivalent in Mathematics. Hospital pharmacy experience is not essential but may be an advantage.

Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust work together to provide high quality health care services across the towns of Warrington, Runcorn, Widnes and the surrounding areas. The majority of emergency care and complex surgical care is based at Warrington Hospital whilst Halton Hospital is a centre for routine surgery. The position will be based mainly on the Warrington Hospital site but will include rotations to Halton Hospital and local hospices.

Higher Level Pharmacy Assistants are involved in:
  • Receiving drugs and sundries on behalf of the Trust, recording batch numbers for accurate audit trails, complying with manufacturers storage instructions.
  • Receiving drugs onto the department computer system recording batch numbers and expiry dates , resolving delivery queries and filing paperwork accordingly
  • Generating orders and managing To-Follows for Halton
  • Stock management including daily reconciliation of stock check, identifying and taking appropriate action with expired or short dated medicines and robot housekeeping duties.
  • Coordinating schedules for reconciling, replacing and checking emergency kits
  • Replenishing ward, clinic and department stock as per Standard Operating Procedures
  • Accuracy checking drug orders
  • Assembling orders for delivery in appropriate containers
  • Ensuring adherence to Wholesalers Dealers Authorisation
  • Delivering drugs to ward and accept authority for the delivery of controlled drugs and ensure responsibility is transferred to the nursing staff
  • Undertaking health and safety audits and checklists
  • Receiving and recording work directly into the department
  • Filing paperwork in accordance to departmental procedures
  • Producing labels using the Pharmacy computer system and dispensing medicines in accordance of Standard Operating Procedures.

In addition to the above, Higher Level Pharmacy Assistants are involved in:
  • Training and supervision of pre-registration pharmacy technicians, Pharmacy Assistants and Apprentices
  • Line management duties under supervision of Senior Pharmacy Technician

Depending on the classification of the post, in-line with DBS guidelines, a Standard or Enhanced disclosure will be required which may include a check of the 'Vulnerable Adults List', the 'Children's List' and/or the Independent Safeguarding Authorities (ISA's) barred lists.

A charge of £60 (Enhanced) will be made by the successful candidate which will be deducted from the first 3 months' salary. In addition to this, you will also be required to re-pay any future costs that may arise in relation to DBS fees.
