We’re reimagining the future of movement. Our vision of a sustainable future of modern luxury by design is at the heart of our next generation thinking and our new generation of talent. Pioneering apprentices, change-driving undergraduates and ground-breaking graduates all play their part.

Together with everyone who proudly works at Jaguar Land Rover, you can be the future of movement. Going from A-B is changing, for good. Can you take us there?

Our programmes are aimed at people who have a passion for learning and a passion for pioneering. Ambitious, innovative and determined people, who respect our heritage and think beyond the challenges of today to build the cars of tomorrow. With a blend of hands-on experience and qualifications to target, our undergraduates work on projects that are fundamental to our global success.

Show us your passion and performance, and we may give you the opportunity to progress onto our graduate programme.

Design - Technical

The beautiful shapes, sweeping curves and luxurious styles of our vehicles would be nothing without the accuracy in the technical set up and attention to craftsmanship. As part of the Design Technical team, you’ll help to produce the flourishing finishes that grab attention wherever they’re seen, while working as part of one of our key teams in Surfacing or Design Model Operations (DMO) Manufacturing.

The Teams

Surfacing Interiors & Exteriors

Detailed 3D A-Surface geometry honouring design intent while delivering manufacturing feasibility. As part of our Surfacing team, you’ll create and deliver feasible A-class surface data that achieves the design intent. An A-Surface is any part of the vehicle that you can see, and touch and you could be working on interiors or exteriors, core and special vehicles.  Input is taken from clay scans, package data, Computer Aided Design (CAD) concepts and hard points to create and release A-class geometry in support of engineering feasibility requirements and the final production release. It will be down to you to deliver best in class crafted optical quality solutions into new vehicle programmes. You’ll also be involved in complex negotiations with engineering, design, and the generation of concept schemes using state of the art CAD systems.

Design Model Operations (DMO) Manufacturing

You will work as part of a high performing team of Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians to deliver physical design assets in collaboration with DMO and Design Studio Modelling teams. Full size and reduced scale exterior and interior properties, components, dress items and display items are required to support design programme gateways, events and launch activities. DMO deliver best-in-class physical assets through model engineering, manufacturing, build and finish. Our role as the Manufacturing Team is to provide customer and technical support for planning, problem solving, ROM selection, cost reduction, quality assurance and on time delivery for component level manufacture in our Gaydon facilities and through external sourcing from specialist partners. Our ever-expanding capabilities include 5 Axis machining of many different materials, Additive Manufacturing across multiple processes, and a range of Advanced Composites and resin systems.

What’s required

Excellence runs throughout our entire business, and we expect you to be the same. You’ll need a strong technical background, creative mind-set, good spatial awareness and have the confidence to get involved in complex negotiations with engineering and design.

For all pathways you will need a 2:2 level or higher and the following based on the pathway:

Surfacing Interiors & Exteriors you will need Automotive Engineering, Transport and Automotive Design, Product or Industrial Design or similar.

DMO Manufacturing you will need Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Composite Engineering or similar.

Please be aware that our undergraduate placement opportunities are only open to penultimate year students working towards a degree in Design (i.e. students who will be returning to their final year of study following their placement with us); or returning to university to study a Masters in Design.

All applicants must upload a Design portfolio to their application to be considered. This must be no larger than 5MB. The guidance below indicates what needs to be shown in your portfolio:

Surfacing Interiors and Exteriors - Aesthetic design with technical problem solving, spatial awareness and attention to detail and CAD skills (ideally surfacing but not essential as training will be given)

DMO Manufacturing - Manufacturing process knowledge including advanced composites and additive technologies, DFA/DFM knowledge, technical problem solving, attention to detail, Agile working experience and CAD skills (CAD-CAM experience welcomed but not essential)

All our undergraduate programmes have a fixed start date commencing June 20th 2022 and will run for a duration of 12 months.

Rewards and Benefits

Your innovation and creativity will be challenged every day, as you develop a rigorous and commercially focused approach in your work. And, with on-going support from industry leading experts and continual learning opportunities, you’ll quickly realise that our programmes have been designed to be as inspiring as the pioneering vehicles you’ll help produce.

Whichever part of the business you join your hard work and contribution deserves recognition. A generous holiday allowance will also be yours, as will many other benefits such as our privilege car purchase scheme, our pension scheme and access a range of deals and discounts from various retailers and sports clubs.
