The role

The job description attached to this advert is for a Band 5 Registered Nurse which is the qualification you will be working towards. You will be asked sign a Trust Learning Agreement when you commence the Programme which will amend the job description to become an Apprentice.

£20,330 - £21,777 per annum pro rata (rising to £25,565 on qualification)

We are searching for aspiring nurses who would like to start a career within our mental health services. Our nursing apprenticeship programme offers you the chance to build a career in one of the UK's most progressive trusts, gain a recognised nursing qualification, and have access to an attractive benefits package.

In partnership with the Open University, we are offering suitable candidates the training and support they need to start working as a Nursing Apprentice. You'll join us as a Student Nursing Apprentice and over four years will undertake a Mental Health Nursing Degree. Alongside part time study, for which funding is provided, you will join one of the teams working in our services across Devon.

You will also need to be prepared to work hard and undertake study in your own time as you work towards becoming a qualified Mental Health Nurse. During the challenging course, you will learn the fundamentals of exceptional care and gain experience as a healthcare assistant. You will learn about compassion and about the power of recovery. You will learn the difference that our teams make to every person that we care for.

This is an incredible opportunity to establish a new career in healthcare. Once qualified, you will join the nursing family and have access to exciting new career opportunities at one of the country's most exciting and progressive mental health and learning disability trusts.

Nursing apprentices will be paid based on the Agenda for Change Band 3 scale starting at £20,330 if completing the 4 year programme, this will increase to £22,549 in the second year and remain at this rate until qualification as a nurse.

About you

To apply you need to hold the minimum of a Level 3 qualification or 2 A Levels, English and Mathematics GCSE grade C or Level 2 functional skills. Anyone with higher level qualifications may also apply and in some instances these may reduce the duration of the training.

It is essential that all applicants attend a joint Trust and Open University briefing session, which will be held on the 25th October which provides an opportunity to gain further information and to ask any questions, with the current restrictions around social distancing this is likely to be an 'on-line' briefing.

There is an additional application process to be undertaken with the Open University if you are shortlisted from your NHS Jobs application.

Invitation to interview will be contingent on attendance at the briefing session.

Joint interviews with the University will be held during mid-November, if you are successful you will then go through the Trust recruitment process, the OU Nursing Programme will commence in early February 2022.
