Broughton House located in Brant Broughton is a 29 bed specialist residential service for adults with autism and who may present with behaviours that challenge. We aim to provide a safe, comfortable and effective care environment for those in our care.

We are looking for a professional, ambitious and confident Unit Manager to provide effective management of a team, which involves motivating, coaching, managing performance and auditing the quality of care as well as ensuring a stable, happy and caring environment that puts the health, safety and welfare of our residents first.

Important qualities of this role include an understanding of what 'good care' looks like, being an excellent role model, conducting yourself in a professional manner and being able to relate to staff in a supportive and motivational manner. It is important that you adhere to all policies and procedures

In this role you will:

  • Take the lead and direct management of shifts and support the senior management team in operational delivery of the service
  • Undertake formal supervision of support workers and support induction for new workers
  • Offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach for all our residents - Provide guidance and encouragement to residents through physical and emotional support
  • Assist residents with medical, hygiene and welfare needs and complete relevant administration and reports as required regarding medication or safeguarding
  • Maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for our residents to live in, which will involve undertaking some domestic duties and complying with policies and procedures
  • Learn about residents specific needs to ensure the highest standard of care is delivered for each individual
  • Provide enhanced support and clinical outcomes for residents, working collaboratively with the in house MDT
  • Achieve, maintain and develop quality of care under the Health and Social Care regulations and provide evidenced based practice upon CQC regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to the maintenance of an open and transparent culture of support and leadership
  • Be required to attend reviews, professional meetings and contribute to outcomes based practice when required

We're looking for people who have:

  • Proven experience of leading and managing a team and the development of good practice in a care/learning support context.
  • Knowledge of management practice including principles of effective supervision and appraisal.
  • The ability to communicate clearly to others and relate to staff in a way that will enable, motivate and support them through role modelling, mentoring, coaching and training, together with the ability to assess staff performance and give constructive feedback.
  • Good knowledge of learning disabilities and/or special needs including recent developments.
  • The ability to read and understand written work of a professional nature and to write clear and accurate reports and plans to required deadlines and standards.
  • Good knowledge of recognised positive approach to working with challenging behaviours associated with learning difficulties.
  • Knowledge of what equal opportunities and discrimination are and how it can be prevented.
  • Knowledge of human growth and development.
  • Proven experience of working effectively with young people with learning disabilities.
