Department of Radiology

Based on the south bank of the river Thames, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is one of the NHS's most successful and highly regarded teaching hospitals, offering patients outstanding levels of care.

With almost thirty sonographers working in the radiology department; all have the opportunity for a varied clinical rotation, including one-stop urology and gynaecology clinics, the main ultrasound departments in both Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, Women's Services and the Evelina London Children's Hospital. Within these areas, we undertake a wide range of clinical work: obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric scanning, small parts, thyroid scanning, ED, DVT and abdominal/general ultrasound.

We value and are committed to developing our Sonographer workforce, with support from our Tutor Sonographer and access to a wide range of CPD and educational opportunities. During the past year, we have supported funded post graduate certificates, diplomas and Masters degrees, as well as virtual courses and webinars.

Research and audit are encouraged and supported throughout the department. Sonographers have the opportunity to present audits at departmental and external meetings and study days.

Short Term Recruitment and Retention Premium (RRP) of £5,000 pa (pro rata) will be paid to new and existing Sonographers in recognition of their vital part in the Radiology Service until March 2022 and will be reviewed annually.
