The East London Foundation Trust Pharmacy Department are looking to recruit an Apprentice Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician to commence February 2022.

This is a training post designed to give the trainee the experience and knowledge to be able to qualify, register and work as a Pharmacy Technician and is a stepping stone to a wider career in Pharmacy.

The trainee will be based at Mile End hospital, but will be required to complete rotations at our other sites including City & Hackney and Newham Centres for Mental Health. Placement in a local community Pharmacy will also be arranged.

The underpinning knowledge and qualification will be delivered by our training provider, Buttercups Training, and is achieved through distance learning and study via virtual classrooms. Study time will be available during your working week, but completion of assignments in your own time will also be required. You will need to be highly committed to achieve this qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program. Individuals will need to be highly organised, self-motivated and capable of meeting multiple deadlines.

The apprentice is supported throughout training and work experience, and with support, will learn to complete a range of tasks within timescales to a competent standard. They are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to quickly learn new IT systems, be able to work efficiently and accurately, pay attention to detail and also enjoy working as part of a team.

This post is offered on a 24 month fixed term contract, full time Monday to Friday, with weekends and Bank holidays on a rota basis.

Educational entry requirements: -

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4-9 or A-C to include English Language, Maths and Science (preferably Chemistry or Biology) or Dual Science.

Please note: Applicants must meet all apprenticeship eligibility criteria listed below:

Must be a UK or EEA citizen and have lived in the county for the last 3 years or a non EEA/UK citizen with right to work in the county with evidence that you have lived in the UK for the previous 3 years.

Must NOT be in full time education by starting date of apprenticeship.

Must NOT hold an equivalent or higher previous qualification in a related subject to the apprenticeship being offered.

Candidates will be invited to attend and complete pre-screening assessments in maths, English and science which includes a mixture of multiple choice and text based questions. Only candidates that demonstrate a sufficient level on this assessment will be considered for this post.

This post will require up to date vaccinations in line with government and trust recommendations for healthcare workers, including Influenza and Covid 19 vaccines.

The successful applicant will be an NHS employee and may therefore have contact with vulnerable service users. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been necessary to take significant steps to protect the health and safety of our staff, service users and those attending our sites. In order to comply with our duty of care, we require our staff to have the COVID vaccine and we will ask for proof of vaccination during the recruitment process. Vaccination will be a condition of employment unless an exemption applies.
