An Exciting opportunity has arose at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust we are seeking to appoint a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Rutson Rehabilitation Unit Therapy Service on a permanent basis. The successful applicants will join the well-established rehabilitation services within the Rutson Rehabilitation Unit at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton

This post provides an excellent opportunity for someone either taking their first step into a Band 6 role or someone who is already established. The team although small is friendly and welcoming and warmly supports colleagues.

Based at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, the role brings a number of exciting factors together. These include excellent MDT working across all OT services coupled with a beautiful location.

With ample parking on site and just a few minutes walk into Northallerton town centre, the Friarage offers a great base for all.

To be successful in this role you will require sound core skills to lead and provide an OT service within a rehabilitation setting. You will have experience of Stroke, moving and handling, complex cases, neurological conditions and housing adaptations.

You will need to be able to work on your own and as part of a team and be involved with service users with a range of multiple medical, social and emotional problems. The role will include visiting service users in their own homes and therefore driving and having access to a car is an essential part of this job.

Excellent communication skills, organisational skills, enthusiasm, commitment and ability to negotiate across a wide range of agencies are also vital in this post. You will be responsible the day-to-day management of other staff within the team, including providing supervision and staff development reviews for Occupational Therapy Assistants and Graduate Occupational Therapists.

Continuing professional development is actively encouraged and regular support and supervision will be provided by a Lead Occupational Therapist. Participation in service developments and clinical governance is also expected, for which there is good support throughout the integrated OT service to help you develop.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust; this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the leadership development programme, and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. This programme aims to:
  • Explore leadership within the NHS
  • Promote Trust Values and Behaviours
  • Develop your Leadership effectiveness and skills
  • Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you with the skills to champion, lead and complete quality improvement within your role

After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7
