About the apprenticeship

Duties

Swansea Materials Research and Testing (SMaRT) are a UK based, UKAS accredited, mechanical testing laboratory which focusses on the measurement of material properties and determining performance of metallic materials/components as well as ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) . The company is growing and looking to recruit an Apprentice Clerical Assistant into the team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing company who will fully support you through your level 2 business administration qualification, delivered by Gower College Swansea, and support you to develop your skills.

The role will involve:

• Answering the telephones.
• All clerical support for the team.
• Reporting quarterly and advising on any concerns.
• Filing and scanning documents.
• Attending monthly meetings with the team.

However as you become more competent and confident in the role there is scope to be given additional responsibilities.

SMaRT are looking for an individual that is willing to study whilst working and is eager to learn new skills. They are also looking for individuals who are:

• Professional.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Can work collaboratively but also under their own initiative.
• Able to multi-task.
• Excellent organisation skills.
• Good IT skills including Excel and other Microsoft Office packages.

Qualifications

English and Maths GSCE C or above

Proficient in Office 365

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
