What will the apprentice be doing?

Within the local NNR you will work with the site management team on the planning and delivery of work programmes and small-scale projects to enhance the Reserve. Your role will involve allocating resources (including volunteers) for the day-to-day management of sites, areas, or projects and you'll will carry out surveys and evaluation of the local environment. You'll also produce reports, and liaise with a wide range of partnerships and the general public who access the Nature Reserve.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You'll undertake the Level 4 Countryside Ranger apprenticeship which is the equivalent of an HNC qualification.

This will involve online learning and practical sessions in the workplace and the compilation of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. On successful completion you will be eligible for registration at 'capable level' with Countryside Management Association and / or Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We cannot guarantee ongoing employment after the successful completion of the apprenticeship but you will be well placed to apply for vacancies within Natural England.

Things to consider

This apprenticeship involves working outdoors in all weathers and can be physically demanding at times. The remote location also means that a driving licence is essential.
