Summary of the role's main purpose:
  • PRH is implementing an Enterprise Data Platform using best of breed cloud based tools to create a governed single source of the truth for the entire organisation. Power BI is our chosen dashboard and analytics tool attached to the platform
  • The Apprentice Power BI Developer will learn to develop reports and dashboards in the Power BI tool. Mentored by experienced Power BI Developers and working closely with commercial and publishing colleagues they will learn the full development cycle. This will include specifying the user story, understanding and gathering the data, prototyping the output with the colleague, testing and releasing the output. They will be an active participant in the support activities to maintain our service as well as developing new Products
  • As a member of the Data Centre of Excellence, they will support the current suite of Products as well as helping to deliver the team strategic roadmap

Key Responsibilities:

Power BI:
  • Build a good level of knowledge and experience of Power BI, leading to a Microsoft certification
  • Demonstrate the ability to adopt and develop visualisation Products within PRH best practice and style guides
  • Develop, support and troubleshoot visualisation Products

General:
  • Build an understanding of the PRH business model in order to understand how visualisation Products support decision making
  • Learn, understand and engage in the DataOps working method and agile ceremonies anmd the Jira/Confluence toolset
  • Process and resolve assigned support tickets for incidents and change requests

Business Relationships:
  • Work closely with the engineering and governance teams to understand the data ecosystem at PRH
  • Documented and validate any delivery with the Data Catalog
  • Maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, self-service Power BI Expert Users and Product consumers across the organisation


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

As a key early member of the team, you will be successful in this position if you either some experience or the desire to become proficient in all aspects of data analysis, especially data visualisation.

You will also need:
  • Good written communication and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of data modelling concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

It would also be useful if you have:
  • Some experience of solving complex problems
  • Some experience of analysing information from a variety of sources
  • Some experience of assembling data to communicate an outcome
  • Some experience of working in a team to deliver a specified output
  • Some experience of communicating effectively

Desirable skills:

It would be beneficial if you have some skills or experience in the following or a genuine desire to become highly skilled in:
  • SQL
  • A BI Tool (such as Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire, Qlik Looker)

  • Customer and results-oriented to deliver great service to customers of the Data Team

Desired qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • 7 GCSE's (or equivalent) at grades 9-4 or A*-C including maths and English

Desirable qualifications:
  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent) at grades A*-C in any subject but preferably one in a numerical or computing subject (e.g. maths, Science, Computer Science etc.)
  • Applications will also be considered from graduates looking for an apprenticeship route to a data Analyst career
