About the apprenticeship


If you have a passion for customer service, and looking to develop your skills as an Apprentice Hospitality Team Member, Norton House Hotel is for you!

If you are willing to learn and aren't afraid of hard work, we can show you exactly what it takes to become a vital team member working in the restaurant ,bar and function room.

You will take on a full-time role in the hotel, working a minimum of 40 hours per week assisting the team of food and beverage assistants within the hotel.

Your daily duties will include;

Serving food and beverages to all customers within the restaurant, bar areas and function room.
Taking food & drink orders from the customers, and then delivering the orders to the customers.
To ensure all areas are clean and tidy during service, to help with laying up of the restaurant and function rooms as required.
To work behind the bar, to keep all area's well stocked and clean during and after service
To have a friendly and approachable manner for members of the public and colleagues, to adhere to all of the hotels customer service standards.

Additional information

You must ensure you have suitable travel arrangements in place to get to the place of work in a timely manner. Due to working unsociable hours, you need to be able to ensure you can get home at the end of your shift.



•Proactive approach to work and able to work on their own initiative as well as in a team
•Confident in dealing with members of the public
•Experience of taking orders is an advantage but not essential

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
