THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO SERVICE NEEDS

This is a unique opportunity to apply your sewing or upholstery knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and creative individual to join our multi-disciplinary team, providing solutions for the management of posture and pressure problems.

The position is part time (15 hours) with the potential for additional hours to meet service needs. The successful applicant will work alongside an experienced upholstery technician already in post. This new post is currently secured for 12 months, but is expected to run for a minimum of 3 years.

The Rehabilitation Engineering Unit (REU) provides services to meet the complex needs of patients requiring engineering solutions to their wheelchair seating, mobility and pressure ulcer care across South West Wales. The unit is situated within the Specialist Rehabilitation Centre at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, providing modern facilities and state-of-the-art technologies.

Practising both independently and as part of a team, you will design and fabricate a range of equipment, e.g. complex bespoke seating and cushion covers, posture support pads and mattress overlays to meet the specifications as defined by the clinical assessors.

You should have a relevant qualification in textile crafts manufacture or upholstery (or equivalent experience). Applicants will need to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in upholstery, tailoring or dressmaking. The applicant will need to be an effective communicator and team worker. The ability to work to deadlines and a flexible attitude is essential.
