Beaudesert Outdoor Activity Centre is located on the edge of Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers a truly unique experience for schools and youth groups. Their 120 acres of mixed woodland and parkland offer fantastic opportunities for everyone to learn and develop outdoors.

They are looking for a number of Apprentice Outdoor Activity Instructors to join their team in January 2022 (you will need to be at least 18 years old by 1st April 2022).

You’ll be passionate about working in the outdoors and particularly working with children. You’ll have excellent communication skills and be good at talking to customers.  Ideally you will have some outdoor activity experience perhaps as a hobby. The role will include instructing outdoor activities such as high ropes, climbing, kayaking, and archery, cleaning and some maintenance tasks.

While working at Beaudesert you will have to opportunity to obtain the following qualifications:

• 2 Day ITC Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid

• Safeguarding training and certificate

• Manual Handling (ITC Level 2 Award in safe moving and handling)

• ITC Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the workplace

• COSHH Training

• Customer Care Training

• Prevent Training

• British Canoeing 2* / Discover / Explore

• British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT)

• British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Course

• Climbing Wall Instructor Award Training

• A range of NGB awards dependent upon individual and employer aspirations

Desirable skills and qualifications:

  • Outdoor activity experience as a hobby, or as part of a youth organisation for example Scouts or Guides
  • Experience working with children
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience dealing with customers
  • 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English grade 4/C or above (or be willing to work towards a Level 2 functional skills if you previously achieved a grade 3/D at GCSE or have passed Level 1 Functional skills)

Additional Information

Shared on site accommodation is available, with meals included.

Future Prospects:

Once the Apprenticeship is completed candidates should hold a minimum of 2 National Governing Body awards, and will have a full season’s worth of experience in instructing activities.

Candidates could then go on to full time instructor roles, or freelance instructing work. There may be the potential for full time instructor positions depending on how the season goes.

Hourly rate: £161.25 per week / £8,385 per annum

Working Hours:  37.5 hours per week annualised
