Due to continued expansion, we are currently seeking to recruit Parts Department Apprentices at our Altrincham Depot. The right candidates will complete a training programme which will familiarise them with all areas of our business in order to become competent Parts Advisors, and well placed to seize future opportunities within Gunn JCB.

Detailed training will be provided by your experienced colleagues and our specialised Training Team, who have recently developed a bespoke training programme for our parts staff. This includes familiarisation sessions with the wide range of plant machinery that we provide and support, as well as some technical instruction to improve your understanding of how this equipment operates.

You will be supported in developing your knowledge of the JCB product range (now over 300 machines) and how these machines operate by completing online training modules, in person courses at our depots and at JCB's Global Learning facility, and through hands on, day to day experience. You will be surrounded by knowledgeable colleagues who will enable you to develop into a confident member of the team.

To ensure you have well rounded knowledge of how a JCB dealer operates, you will also spend time with the Sales, Service and Accounts Departments as a part of your working week.

Your main duties would include;

  • Stock control through stock checks and use of retail inventory management software
  • Ordering parts via Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) online catalogue
  • Building service kits using online quotation tools
  • Liaising with Engineers to assist them in supporting customers all over the country
  • Fulfilling the requirements of internal workshops when completing repairs or refurbishing machines
  • Drafting quotes for repair work, new plant additions and refurbishment of used equipment
  • Gaining an understanding of machine attachments and light equipment in order to respond to customer enquiries
  • Receiving and unloading stock, identifying most efficient locations for fast moving parts
  • Picking parts for customers' orders and checking availability of stock in the depot, other locations within the group, and various suppliers
  • Raising invoices for stock that is sold
  • Through inbound and outbound telephone calls, counter customer and internet enquiries, developing customer relationships by providing good product knowledge and creating an effective first impression
  • Handle warranty claims processing and complete all relevant administration
  • Acting as an ambassador for the JCB brand

Additional Information

Pay will be at standard apprenticeship rates.

Essential Skills

  • A successful applicant will be confident with basic IT systems and comfortable learning new processes and procedures
  • A basic level of mathematical and English language skills are required - GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in maths and English language
  • A willingness to learn and get stuck in

Desirable Skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills (including confident telephone manner) are an advantage for any applicant, or a willingness to develop in these areas if you currently lack experience in a customer facing role.
