We are a busy and vibrant Financial and Mortgage Advice practice based in Northampton, providing our clients with advice on Mortgages, Insurance, Pensions, Investments and Will Writing. As the ideal candidate, you will be someone who is technically minded, and able to handle and process complex information, while being able to communicate well with our clients and wanting to go that extra mile to ensure they receive excellent customer service. You will need to be able to work as part of a team, while also using initiative to undertake work independently, with a flexible approach. The applicant will be required to spend time researching on the job, various techniques, and skills to adapt the role and put this into practice on a daily basis. The role will be geared around the pension and investment arm, applying paraplanning support to the financial advisor to help develop and grow this area of the business.

We are looking for the right person to join our fun and dynamic team as a trainee paraplanner, with a keen interest in the financial sector.

As the ideal candidate, you will be someone who is technically minded, and able to handle and process complex information, while being able to communicate well with our clients and wanting to go that extra mile to ensure they receive excellent customer service. You will need to be able to work as part of a team, while also using initiative to undertake work independently, with a flexible approach. The applicant will be required to spend time researching on the job, various techniques, and skills to adapt the role and put this into practice on a daily basis. The role will be geared around the pension and investment arm, applying paraplanning support to the financial advisor to help develop and grow this area of the business.

Duties include but not limited to:
  • Process Pension and Investment applications; following up with providers and keeping clients informed of the application progress
  • Provide comprehensive, flexible technical support to the financial advisor
  • Preparing and maintaining client files, which includes discussing clients' objectives with the advisor.
  • Preparing recommendations, including the undertaking of research, providing comparisons for analysis, and drafting reports for the advisor.
  • Implement recommendations, which includes report preparation and making investment changes.
  • Be a point of contact with clients and third parties, organising future planning meetings and prepare and send meeting valuation reports to clients.
  • Attend webinars and courses relevant to business assurance
  • Generate provider letters, emails & documents
  • Handling diary systems, to book client appointments and reminders for following up on applications
  • Use internal client management systems to ensure application progress is updated appropriately.
  • Utilising 'Xplan' (our network compliance system) workflow process for all client processing
  • Comply with company standards and policies on Data Protection, Financial Crime, Treating Customers Fairly as well as FCA regulations.
  • Answering calls, taking messages for advisors and handling client queries

  • Experience in a financial services role would be desirable.

Desired qualifications

  • Strong academic ability, with high quality GCSE & A-Level (if applicable) results
  • 5 GCSEs A-C/7-4(English and maths essential, business/finance advantageous
  • Ideally Degree qualified, graduating with a 2.2 or above


Future prospects

We will support you through a structured 18-month programme to achieve the CII Level 4 Certificate in Paraplanning and will help you to develop your paraplanning skills, expertise, and advanced technical knowledge in several key advisory areas. The role offers the opportunity for progression and development and would be suitable for a recent graduate looking for a career in Financial Services, particularly Financial Advice or someone who has 12 months industry experience.
