We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. Band 5 Dietitian or Band 6 Specialist Dietitian for Secure Inpatient Services- depending on experience.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and pro-active Graduate Dietitian or Specialist Dietitian to join our Secure Inpatient Forensic Services in Middlesbrough. This post provides an opportunity to work as part of a broader and supportive team of Dietitians working within a specialist mental health and learning disabilities NHS Foundation Trust.

This exciting post provides an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the Forensic Service at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough. Clinical areas include inpatient working with male and female service users with Severe Mental Health Problems, Autism and Learning Disabilities across 20 wards in Low and Medium Risk Secure Inpatient Settings. This will involve a strong emphasis on using a Trauma Informed Care approach to Weight Management and linking comorbidities such as, Type 2 Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease as well as working with Disordered Eating and Oral Nutritional Support. The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in policy development, audit, research activities, pathway development, menu planning, staff, and student training.

The Dietetic Team in the Trust is the largest and most established dietetic team in mental health and learning disabilities in the UK and has excellent links with the Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA. We are a dynamic team of Dietitians, Registered Nutritionist's, Associate Practitioners, Dietetic Assistants working in a number of clinical areas throughout Teesside, Darlington, County Durham, North Yorkshire, York and Selby. We have several experienced Clinical Lead Dietitians in the clinical areas of adult eating disorders, adult mental health, children and young people, forensics and older people. We have developed a high profile as a good quality dietetic service at both local and national levels and are the largest mental health and LD dietetic team in the UK. We have strong links with the Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA and are committed to providing first class professional development.

Candidates should be a HCPC Registered Dietitian with appropriate experience in dietetics including some awareness of the skills required to work with service users with mental illness, autism and/or learning disabilities with complex needs. They should have excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable. Regular clinical and management supervision will be provided and there will be a strong emphasis on Continued Professional Development and post-graduate training.

This post may require 7 day flexible working and travel to different sites across the trust if required.
