We have an exciting opportunity at Springboard Nursery for an Apprentice Production Chef to join our friendly and supportive Nursery team. We take great pride in the high-quality food we serve to the children - the role requires planning and preparing nutritionally balanced healthy snacks and meals daily, ensuring all dietary needs are met.

As an apprentice you will learn to;

  • Work with the Nursery Cook to plan and prepare healthy, balanced, and nutritious snacks and meals for children attending the Nursery.
  • Assist with the preparation and production of daily snacks and meals in accordance with set menus that are of high quality, are healthy, balanced, nutritious, and meet specific and individual dietary requirements.
  • Contribute to the design and planning of the Nursery menus in accordance with the EYFS and the Governments dietary recommendations for children aged 0-5 years.
  • Produce dishes to meet special dietary, religious and allergenic requirements.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and operational practices to ensure the health, safety and well-being of children when preparing, cooking, or serving snacks or meals.
  • Complete paperwork and records as appropriate and work with the Cook to ensure that they are kept up to date.
  • Keep the kitchen and working environment clean and tidy always. Including ensuring that all cookware, crockery, and other items are washed and put away after use.
  • Use specialist kitchen-equipment.
  • Support the Nursery rooms with food and resources needed for food-related activities
    with children or Nursery events.
  • Attend staff meetings, planning meetings and relevant training courses to keep up to date with changes to legislation, policy, and practice.
  • Support the Cook to manage levels of food stock, including food resources required in the Nursery rooms, ensuring that stock is not excessive, is stored and labelled appropriately and safely and is rotated to keep food waste to a minimum
  • Ensure food and other produce is received from suppliers in a good condition and if
    appropriate at the required temperature.

You will have the chance to enrol onto a Level 2 Production Chef Standard.

Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the apprentices’ chosen career route, each standards has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English.

Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.

Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, one to one training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.
