Team Up is looking for a dynamic intern to support our Rising Leaders programme delivery and enable our inspirational volunteer tutors to transform the life chances of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.

About the Internship

This role is supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation as part of the Jack Petchey Internship Programme, which is a fantastic initiative designed to help the post holder gain valuable experience in the charities sector, and is running next year with 25 interns from different youth organisations across London and Essex.

You will receive additional professional development support throughout the internship programme, including six professional development workshops across the year, a GBP1,000 training bursary, and a professional mentor from another organisation. You will join the other Jack Petchey interns at a launch conference, a mid-way workshop, and a celebration event at the end of the programme.

The Jack Petchey Internship Programme training and events will take place in person in London (subject to covid restrictions), and you will be expected to take full part in this development programme alongside your role at Team Up.

Terms & Conditions

Salary: GBP21,157.50 per annum (London Living Wage)

Start Date: January 2022 (the post holder must be ready to take up the post no later than 31 Jan 2022)

Working hours: Full time role c. 37.5 hours per week

Contract length: 12 month internship

Annual leave: 25 days holiday per year, to be agreed with line manager

About Team Up

Team Up works to reduce the widening attainment gap in education by helping underachieving disadvantaged pupils double their expected progress and improve their future prospects. We do this through inspirational volunteer tutors, with the support of qualified teachers.

We deliver free online and in-person small group tuition in maths and English to over 1,000 disadvantaged pupils in London and the South East each year. We have ambitions to expand programme delivery further into Essex in 2021/22.

We offer enrichment programmes to the pupils we tutor to raise their commitment to their tuition subjects and increase aspirations for further education or new career ideas. Enrichment programmes consist of interactive workshops, including STEM subjects and career based Q&A's, at top universities and employer workplaces.

Alongside our delivery team of qualified teachers, we train over 300 volunteer tutors (mainly in full time education, aged 17-21 years old) who value the meaningful volunteer experience we offer them for their future careers. Each tutor is placed on our Rising Leaders programme where Team Up commits to provide a professional mentor to those who want one, a reference, and career workshops and seminars, as well as tutors being able to achieve a certified qualification with SSAT (the Schools, Students and Teachers Network).

About the role

This is a demanding and exciting role for a multi-skilled individual looking to gain experience in a charity with an impactful programme and committed volunteer base.

This is a crucial role supporting the delivery of our Rising Leaders programme, working closely with our Head of Programmes to engage with our tutors, develop and deliver opportunities supporting the personal growth of our tutors, and support our recruitment and retention of tutors.

In this role you will be responsible for coordinating specific elements of our Rising Leaders programme including organising inspirational speakers to deliver seminars and nurturing mentoring relationships between our tutors and experienced career mentors, which will give you an opportunity to build relationships with our alumni and make a real difference to their career prospects.

You will get the opportunity to help shape our development plans by engaging with our tutors and finding out more about their experiences and how we can best support them, through activities like running tutor focus groups and collecting tutor case studies.

Three times a year, leading up to the start of a new term, we will require extra help to recruit volunteers and you will be able to understand the process of engaging with new volunteers and onboarding them as Team Up tutors as part of this process.

When required, it's essential this role, like all Team Up roles, join in carrying out administrative tasks to enable the charity to run effectively.

The responsibilities below are a comprehensive view of the available role but we have a clear plan of induction, training, learning, developing and reviewing over the 12 months with support from the line manager and Senior Management Team.

Responsibilities

Rising Leaders programme support

Coordinate our mentoring programme for volunteers, where suitable career mentors are matched with volunteers to help support their own development

Organise and administer our tutor development seminars, liaising with speakers and venues and sending invitations

Monitor and complete SSAT awarding for tutors

Oversee our provision of references for tutors as they apply for employment or other voluntary opportunities

Coordinate our tutor rewards system for outstanding tutors

Tutor engagement and communications

Run tutor focus groups to learn more about our tutors' experiences, and collect qualitative data to inform our development plans for our programmes

Collect tutor case studies through conducting interviews with our experienced tutors

Present your findings to the wider team including senior leadership

Using the above, create content and share on our social media channels, and generally maintain regular contact with our alumni tutors

Tutor recruitment support

Deliver presentations to sixth forms and universities to help more young volunteers learn about the Rising Leaders programme and the opportunity to tutor

Support tutor recruitment processes by organising tutor interviews and assisting with completing DBS checks for volunteers

Administration

Assisting with any ad hoc administrative tasks to support tuition, enrichment and the Rising Leaders programme delivery

Any other reasonable requests made by line manager
