Job Description

HMRC is offering an undergraduate intern placement starting in September 2022. This placement will give you a true flavour of working in the Civil Service and HMRC, including what will be in store for you should you join the organisation. You will be able to develop "hands-on" professional skills whilst gaining vital experience of working in a highly politicised environment that will put you on the front foot for your future career, whether that be in the public or private sector.

You'll work in a professional environment and have a clear role and responsibilities from day one. You'll gain vital skills, behaviours and knowledge and you will have custom support throughout your placement from both your manager and colleagues.

About the Team

This is an exciting time to join VAT Infrastructure in Indirect Tax. The deputy directorate has recently refreshed its organisation design under three essential functions: Policy Design, Systems Design and Policy Delivery. This role will expose you to all the functions allowing you to build up lots of skills and experience during your placement.

Our strategies are informed by, and impact the UK's economic, social, and wider policy context. The Directorate has opportunities to craft HMRC's use of new technologies, behavioural insight, and innovative ways.

The Strategies Directorate is relatively small and team working matters. Wanting to be part of crafting a Directorate, using your knowledge and skills to support the way the Directorate performs, and representing the Directorate are important parts of this role.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and to be confident the ability to develop their knowledge to provide clear and evidenced advice to senior colleagues and support policy development work.

You will have experience in researching, coordinating and analysing facts and data, utilising judgement and interpretative ability where issues are sophisticated or conflicting. You will need a flexible approach to dealing with an exciting workload and the ability to work well under pressure

Essential Criteria

• Be studying towards an undergraduate degree and eligible for a 'sandwich' intern year or taking a gap year.

• Be available to work at our Liverpool hub 2 days a week throughout the whole period of your placement.
