Job Details

Are you looking for an apprenticeship close to home in Manchester? Do you like problem solving? Are you an aspiring engineer? If so, Essity’s technical engineering apprenticeship could be for you.

This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn.

At Essity we manufacture and sell products that are used every day, we break taboos and challenge convention, all with the intention of breaking down barriers to health and well-being globally.

We own and manufacture many leading brands. Cushelle toilet tissue, Plenty kitchen roll and TORK are three of our leading tissue brands, all manufactured in the UK for use in the home and industry.

About the role

It takes a lot of people to make one toilet roll and our engineers and technicians play a key role in maintaining and improving our manufacturing equipment to do just that.

Join Essity as a Technical Engineering Apprentice and you will have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to become a Mechanical Technician

On site in Trafford Park our converting lines turn semi-finished goods manufactured in our paper mills into the finished product for onward despatch to a variety of customers. The site runs 24/7. Key to its success is the reliability of the machinery. Innovation and sustainability are important to us.

This apprenticeship is designed to create our engineers and technicians of the future – a great opportunity to launch your career.

What you will do

The Technical Engineering Apprenticeship blends college and work based technical skills training. Whilst at work you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice with the support of knowledgeable and experienced teams. This could range from working on the converting lines to spending time supporting in our on site workshop.

Over four years you will follow the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard, which includes study for the following qualifications

  • Year 1 - Level 2  Performing Engineering Operations

  • Years 2 & 3 – Level 3 B-Tech Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME)

  • Years 3 & 4 – Level 4 HNC in Mechanical Engineering (subject to you demonstrating the right level of knowledge, growth, and commitment during your apprenticeship)

As part of your apprenticeship, you will need to compile a portfolio of evidence consisting of projects and pieces of work you have completed to be used in the end point assessment at the end of year 4.

You will work Monday to Friday during your apprenticeship which will include a day per week at one of our partner colleges – Trafford College or Wigan & Leigh College.

Who are you?

We would love to hear from you if you can show the following

  • A minimum of GCSE grade 6/B in maths (essential)

  • A minimum of GCSE grade 5/C in English, science and two other subjects (essential)

  • The ability to solve problems

  • You can work collaboratively with others and communicate effectively – both verbally and in writing

  • You like to take on new challenges and work outside of your comfort zone

  • You can successfully balance study whilst participating in other activities

What we can offer you

In return we offer an excellent starting salary (above the national minimum apprentice wage), plus competitive pension scheme, annual bonus earning potential, health cash plan, workwear, and discounted products.

Most importantly we offer the opportunity for you to work for a global company and gain first-hand experience of world class maintenance techniques within the fast-moving consumer goods market.

You will complete your apprenticeship with a robust set of qualifications, knowledge and skills providing a strong platform to develop a long-lasting career with Essity.

Selection

We will shortlist your application based on you meeting the academic criteria, together with demonstrating how you meet the behaviours that are important to us.  We will get in contact with you via a mix of email and phone.

Your start date if successful will be January 2022.

At Essity, we embrace the individual and recognise the remarkable power that can be harnessed when different ideas, backgrounds, experiences, and perspective come together.  If you apply for a job at Essity, you can be sure that the only criteria we consider for selection is professional experience, qualifications, key job-related attributes and working values.
