Employer description:

In March 2015 Windsor Girls’ School and Windsor Boys’ School formed a Multi-Academy trust called Windsor Learning Partnership (WLP). In May 2016 Dedworth Middle School and Dedworth Green First School joined the Trust, followed by Clewer Green CE First School in April 2020. The Trust is a charitable body and the single legal entity responsible for the schools.

Vacancy Description:

The Apprentice IT Technician will report into the Trust IT Director and will be expected to display the ability to work independently and autonomously to ensure that an effective IT service is delivered to the school.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide front-line IT Helpdesk support providing ICT help to staff and pupils.
  • Maintain specialist equipment.
  • Hardware and software support of school devices including Microsoft computers, Audio-visual equipment, printers, telephones, and network equipment.
  • Fault diagnosis and repairs to a wide range of end-user devices.
  • User support for standard software packages.
  • Ensure that MFDs around the school are filled with paper and replace consumables when required.
  • Installation of new hardware including structured cabling where applicable.
  • Use of computerised Helpdesk facility and management of calls from inception to conclusion.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, data protection, and GDPR, health, safety and security, and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

  • To be able to work independently and show initiative

Personal Qualities:

  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy with English and Maths GCSE (Grade A-C) or equivalent

  • To be able to work independently and show initiative in providing an ICT Support Service covering hardware, software, and peripherals
  • Self-motivated, with a strong commitment to teamwork and service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and personalities
  • A common-sense approach and enthusiasm to learn.
  • The capacity to remain calm and to cope under pressure.
  • Troubleshooting skills, backed by a clear, analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Flexible and adaptive as this role may require some evening or weekend work at times, (time off in lieu will be provided)
  • Able to relate well to young people.
  • Personally committed to the school's ethos, work, and aims.

Entry requirements:

You need to have 5 GCSE’s:

  • Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades D or above
  • 3x GCSE’s grade A-C in any other subject

You must not already have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level, or higher level than this apprenticeship.

Working week:

5 days per week,

8 am-4:30 pm Monday-Thursday

8 am-4 pm Friday

37hrs per week [all details will be confirmed with the employer]

Salary:

You will be paid £240.38 per week whilst in your apprenticeship; if you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you will be offered a competitive salary as a First Line Engineer.

Future prospects:

On completion of the Apprenticeship, the individual could secure a full-time position.
