About the apprenticeship


Assisting with the processing and validation of invoices using the KOFAX and Civica Financials systems. This includes the validation of suppliers, invoice totals and VAT.
 Assisting with the production of payment runs from feeder systems such as housing benefits, utilities, childcare and foster payments, including file conversion, verification of creditor accounts and BACS authorisation.
 Ensuring no duplicate payments are made and taxation is corrected applied.
 Dealing with queries from suppliers in a timely manner, ensuring good customer care and communication skills with the ability to respond to queries with confidence.
Assisting in establishing and maintaining appropriate budgetary systems and accounting procedures relevant to the Capital Programme; liaising with relevant departments and assisting in the resolution of technical and other issues.
 Assisting in complying with legal and accounting requirements and deadlines relating to the Council's Statutory Accounts and Returns, including VAT monitoring and returns to HMRC.
 Assisting on matters relating to performance and risk management for the Accountancy Division.
 Assisting with monitoring of control accounts and the development, streamlining and maintenance of financial systems and processes.
 Assisting with the requirements of the Council's Bank Reconciliation and Treasury Management functions.

Additional information

This post is an ideal opportunity for finance-oriented candidates to obtain a wide range of experience in the accountancy and creditor payment functions of a Local Authority, including assisting with bank reconciliation, treasury management, monitoring of Capital schemes and the processing of invoice and other payments.



Some experience in Finance would be beneficial.


5 GCSEs grade A-C or equivalent including Maths and English.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
