MBDA Image Processing Engineer Summer Placement 2022
The Image Processing department plays a pivotal part in concept and life of MBDA products. We work on high complexity weapon systems and understand how the various subsystems interact and have a direct influence on design decisions. The algorithms we design lie at the heart of the missile system.
What's the opportunity?
Develop and evaluate state-of-the-art algorithms incorporating detection, classification, tracking, reconstruction, and restoration tasks across imaging modalities including visible, infrared and Synthetic Aperture Radar.

Become a key member of a dynamic team working with experienced engineers at an exciting time of growth and opportunity! You will be supported to take on responsibilities for researching, developing and evaluating algorithms that integrate into wider complex weapon systems across all stages of the product lifecycle; this will either be through externally or internally funded research studies to investigate algorithms for future developments, or as part of fast-moving and complex product teams.

Learn about the development of Image Processing and Computer Vision algorithms (including segmentation, filter design, noise removal, compression, super-resolution, tracking, optical flow, particle filtering and pose estimation)
  • Data fusion to combine data from multiple sensors
  • Support to concept and feasibility studies
  • Internal Research and Development (IRAD) to support future weapons and technology demonstrators, such as implementing deep learning techniques to solve a range of complex problems

Our work is mostly MATLAB/Simulink focussed and you will work on this tool daily.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team in developing our complex weapon systems! Gain in-depth knowledge of their design and functionality. Work alongside engineers from a broad range of fields (e.g. Guidance, Control & Navigation, Simulation & Modelling, Software Engineering, Systems Design & Validation, Seekers & Datalink Systems) and you will get to see cutting-edge technological innovations. You have the opportunity to work with colleagues in MBDA France and Germany, whilst working from the UK.

Our Summer Placements last for 10 or 12 weeks, starting either the 6th or 20th June 2022.

Entry criteria
Working towards a Degree in a subject with a strong mathematical content (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar), with:
  • An analytical approach and the ability to visualise complex systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience in some of the following:
  • Matlab, Simulink, C/C++
  • Deep Learning libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)
  • Python (including SciPy, OpenCV, Scikit-learn, Pandas)
  • Model Based Design
