Job Title Integrated Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT)

Location:

East Surrey & Dorking

Hours:

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Contract:

Two-year Fixed Term post (February 2021- February 2023)

Band:

Year 1 - 70% Top of Band 4 (Annex 21)

Year 2 - 75% Top of Band 4 (Annex 21)

Would you like to become a registered Pharmacy Professional and join an essential and evolving workforce through qualification as a Pharmacy Technician?

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust have partnered with East Surrey CCG and First Community Health and Care to offer an integrated Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) role.

This two-year apprenticeship offers training across both Primary and Secondary care sectors with placements at:
  • East Surrey Hospital (Acute hospital trust)
  • Surrey Heartlands CCG (East Surrey locality)
  • Dorking Health Care GP surgery (Primary Care Network)

This apprenticeship will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Pharmacy Technicians (PT) are recognised nationally as an essential part of the workforce in delivering the NHS Long term plan and as such the role has huge potential across the healthcare sectors.

This apprenticeship is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to become a registered Pharmacy Technician which is achieved through a combination of academic modules, work-based assignments and vocational experience:
  • Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians which covers the GPhC Initial Educational and Training Standards. This will be delivered by Bradford College virtually and day release will be provided, this will include assessments, assignments and projects with an end point assessment at the in second year.
  • Vocational experience at the Cross-sector placements four days per week where you will develop a work-based e- portfolio with your education supervisors. You will have regular one- to ones and professional appraisals.

The successful candidate will contribute to service delivery across all placements on a flexible working basis that may include evenings, weekends and bank holidays which will be agreed at the start of each rotation, You will remain under supervision throughout the training period duration although there will be some autonomous working when you have demonstrated competence or sign-off following assessment to undertake specific tasks.

You will require the means to travel across the whole locality for defined periods throughout the program which may include travel early in the morning and late at night. A driving Licence and use of car is essential as the GP surgery is situated in a rural location and the CCG placement will involve visiting multiple GP practices. Travel expenses will be refunded in accordance with NHS terms and conditions.

Due to the requirements of this demanding training role we would prefer the PTPT to be employed on a full-time contract however, part-time may be considered on a case by case basis as long as the GPhC Initial Education and Training standards can be met.

You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, enjoy working as part of a multifunctional team and to be resilient. You should be accurate in your work, with attention to detail and be able to focus on complex tasks. Although all partners will provide training for the IT systems used you will have to learn new systems at pace and embrace the innovations in healthcare technology. You will need to be extremely committed to achieving this qualification as it requires participation in a vigorous training and competency program. You must be able to balance work/ study and home life as the course provider recommends up to 8 hours private study in addition to the study leave provided in each placement.

On completion of the two year apprenticeship you will be eligible to register with the GPhC as a registered Pharmacy Technician and although every effort will be made to provide a substantive position at the end of the training period this cannot be guaranteed.

You must meet all of the minimum eligibility criteria as defined in the Person Specification to apply for this apprenticeship; applications which do not meet the minimum academic or funding requirements will not be considered for interview.

If invited for an interview, please be aware you will be asked to prepare a presentation; more information will be provided if you are successful with your application.

Interviews will be held on 10th December 2021.
