What will the apprentice be doing?
  • Delivering an effective, efficient and customer focused service
  • Contributing to the Billing, Collection and recovery of Council Tax
  • Contributing to the assessment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support claims
  • Assist in maximising the Council's income and ensuring that low income households are able to access all available financial support.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentices will be awarded their Level 4 apprenticeship and in addition will be awarded a Certificate in Local Taxation, Revenues and Welfare Benefits; this would enable them to become a Technician member of the Institute.

Training will be provided for the processes and regulations covering welfare benefits and Council Tax, so you do not need previous experience in these areas. What is important is that you are someone who is committed to putting the customer first and likes working as part of a large dynamic team.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This is a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship.

Cornwall Council offers a recruitment and selection workshop to support employees applying for other roles, however, there is no guarantee of employment at the end of the fixed term.

On completion, the apprentice will receive a recognised qualification which supports their knowledge and experience for a revenues and welfare benefits practitioner.
