The Role

An exciting, fixed term opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting people with a learning disability in the Specialist Learning Disability Services in Radlett.

The Specialist Residential Service (SRS) is an integral part of the Specialist Learning Disability Service directorate within HPFT. It provides medium to long term care for 24 adults with learning disabilities and additional complex needs. Needs of the service users can include: challenging behaviour, mental illness, autism, mobility difficulties, physical health and sensory impairment.

The post holder will work alongside registered Occupational Therapists, Assistant Therapy Practitioners (ATPs) and the wider MDT.

As a Occupational Therapy Assistant you will be providing social and recreational activities within the service and with opportunities to support service user's in accessing the local community and facilitating community-based groups. You will be working with service users with a learning disability and additional mental health needs. Many service users also have needs related to their age and physical health and activities continue to be adapted to their changing needs.

Occupational Therapy Assistants carry out the planning and delivery of a range of relevant, meaningful, social, recreational and therapeutic activities, which aim to meet the needs of service users as a whole, as well as tailor-made activities to reflect the needs of individuals.

The successful post-holder will be managed by a dynamic and supportive team of Occupational Therapists based in the Learning Disability service, and will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team , with many learning and development opportunities available.

We are a supportive and forward-thinking team, with great peer networks; we actively promote learning opportunities and professional development with development opportunities in both clinical and leadership fields of work.

The team is part of a forward-thinking Trust who are rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC and this year's winner of the HSJ Mental Health Trust of the Year award. We are also delighted to be able to support appropriate candidates on the HPFT/University of Hertfordshire OT apprenticeship scheme.
