Thank you for your interest in a post at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Every employee at the Trust strives to provide excellent patient experience every single time. We strive to be an excellent employer for every one of our employees from the day they apply for employment with us. We have four core values, developed by our staff, and these are at the heart of everything we do to enable us to deliver our ambitions of excellence. You can find out more about our vision and values from our videos and website, which you can access via this page.

Thank you for your interest in working for The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, supporting Health and Social Care across Wakefield.

These roles have recently been created as part of a joint venture between the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and local adult social care services, to improve the experience of our patients when transferring from one care provider to another. These roles will appeal to individuals wanting to develop their experience of delivering care across a variety of settings.

Successful post holders will be employed by the Trust and will commence an initial placement, which is likely to be for 6 months, working in a variety of social care settings across the Wakefield and Pontefract locality. During this period, you will have the opportunity to directly support patients who are transferring from hospital into care homes, to ensure all their needs are met and that they settle successfully. You will work directly with your assigned patients to assist their settlement. Following your initial placement, you will continue to work within one of our adult inpatient, community or other hospital- based services within Mid Yorkshire Hospitals.

You will personally make a difference to the lives of patients and their carers and relatives every single day. Our Healthcare Assistants work at the heart of our multidisciplinary teams who support our patients by assisting the Registered Nurses in planning, delivering and evaluating care. This will require you: to be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing; to share our commitment to maintaining high standards in everything we do; and to demonstrate that you can work effectively within a team that behaves in accordance with our values.

The roles are varied and busy as you will be working a variety of shifts including 'long days', nights, weekends and bank holidays. We will support you to achieve full training for your core duties including achievement of a national Care Certificate, and we will support your continued development.

You will need access to transport to enable you to support your patients in the appropriate setting. It is also a requirement, before you are able to commence in post, that you have been appropriately vaccinated against covid-19. This will form part of the pre-employment health screening requirements and will be a requirement of your employment.

To be eligible to work as a Apprentice Healthcare Assistant, we expect that you hold Level 1 in Functional Skills/Key Skills in Numeracy and English.

Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, you will automatically become a Healthcare Assistant. To be eligible for a funded apprenticeship, you must be over the age of 16, a resident in the UK/EU for the last three years and you must not hold a degree, or level 4 qualification (or above) or a vocational qualification in the same pathway or subject, e.g. BTEC or GCSE.
