Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services (MMPS) at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) have an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join its Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team.

The QA/QC department supports the LTHT Preparative Services departments which comprise:

  • Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit, Moor House - MHRA licensed facility for Aseptic production and repackaging/overlabelling
  • Aseptic Dispensing Unit, St. James' University Hospital (SJUH) - supporting Yorkshire Cancer Centre & Specialist Intestinal Failure Services
  • Aseptic Dispensing Unit, Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) - supporting Leeds Children's Hospital
  • Radiopharmacy, St. James' University Hospital (SJUH) - supporting LTHT Nuclear Medicine


Services are also provided to external NHS hospitals and others.

The post holder's main responsibilities will include:
  • Delivery and collection of media to/from external sites.
  • Receipt and processing of microbiological monitoring samples.
  • Inspection/reading of microbiological monitoring samples.
  • Suitable escalation to senior staff members.
  • Temperature monitoring and temperature mapping of all temperature controlled areas across MMPS.
  • Assisting with Physical Environmental Monitoring of clean rooms.
  • Chemical testing activities using specialist equipment.
  • Liaising with service users regarding requirements.
  • Accurate record keeping and documentation.


Additional information:
  • A full, clean driving licence is essential due to travel off site.
  • The post also involves moving and handling of monitoring equipment.
  • A degree of flexibility with respect to working hours is also required as testing is frequently carried out outside of normal working hours, including weekends.


Comprehensive training will be provided however the applicants must already hold one of the following:
  • Level 2 Apprenticeship /Pharmacy Services Assistant

or
  • NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services

If you are offered a position, you may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.

LTHT will request electronic Factual Employment References from your previous employers. These references will be requested before you are issued with an unconditional offer of employment letter.
