Pay Rates: ROP Day: £14.21

The Role:

To provide quality, effective pharmacy services to improve patient care including technical and clinical services, and to assist in education and training of pharmacy and nursing staff.

To promote further development of the pharmacy technician's role within the Trust.
  • Provision of a quality service, demonstrating reliability in routine dispensing of medication and skill in non-routine tasks e.g. advising patients/carers on medication issues or handling routine drug queries.
  • Participation in accuracy checking of dispensed items.
  • Development of and participation in ward-based duties to include medicines reconciliation, assessment of PODs and liaising with other heathcare professionals to gather relevant information on current medication and compliance status of newly admitted patients.
  • Take lead role in co-ordination of clozapine supply for both in and out-patients on a rota basis, liaising with prescribers, CPNs, patients and/or carers, pharmacists, other Trusts, e-CPMS and Healthcare at Home for transfer of information, timely blood results, and supply of medication. Act as POCHBA operator to process blood results from CMHTs for analysis before supply of clozapine.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of policies and procedures within the department and those impacting across services e.g. Medicines Management Policy.
  • Supervise and train new starters, apprentices, assistants, qualified or student technicians in the provision of an effective and efficient pharmacy services.
  • Deliver post graduate level training to pre-registration pharmacy graduates and qualified nursing staff.
  • Manufacture of special medications that are commercially unavailable, for individual patients, following Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, SOPs, Weights and Measures and COSHH regulations. Promote and comply with SOPs regarding the safe use of equipment and notify the Chief Technician in the event of mechanical fault at the earliest opportunity.

  • BTEC Level 3 Professional Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
  • Willingness to complete BTEC Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking within agreed time frame
