Main Purpose of the Role:
  • The purpose of the role is to bring an environmental and sustainable focus into Hfts work as a business
  • We want the candidate to understand our business and develop a three -point plan of how we intend to operate in a more environmentally conscious way and we need someone to take the lead in ensuring this plan is implemented

Main Duties & Responsibilities.
  • Lead the development, implementation, reviews and communication of sustainability policies, procedures, strategies and action plans that promote sustainable Services
  • Ensure compliance and keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives
  • Complete all regulatory returns and requirements to ensure we are compliant as a minimum
  • Co-ordinate and lead our sustainability wide engagement activities and awareness campaigns through collaboration with internal stakeholders ie our customers with learning disabilities and the colleagues who support them
  • Promote the embedding of sustainability considerations into the fuel systems of new schemes and developments
  • Keep abreast of current thinking and developments in sustainability and education to ensure the relevancy of the approach taken
  • Review internal process and business functions in offices with a view to ensuring environmental compliance
  • Make recommendations for improvement as necessary
  • Prepare and present annual reports and periodic updates for Annual Reports and the Board as required
  • Identify opportunities for potential funding to develop business cases in support of key sustainable initiatives

  • Ability to devise a practical achievable plan focussed on where the Charity can achieve the most important impact
  • Good knowledge of sustainability and relevant qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self motivated and organised
  • Good IT skills

Personal qualities

  • Understanding of working with people with a learning disability
  • Passion for sustainability and practical solutions

Desired qualifications

Minimum requirements for entry to the course are:
  • Level 2 or equivalent English and maths qualification, grade C/4 or above
  • First or second class honours degree

Future prospects

  • Access to other career opportunities within the organisation and/or permanent role

Things to consider

  • Weekly visits to Hft Sites on a national basis
  • Twice per week visit to Emerson Green Bristol
  • Good access to Wifi
  • Able to devise a simple concrete action plan for this national charity of items to achieve and persuade stakeholders of need to fund (eg our fundraising team)
  • Ability to travel to Emersons Green Bristol twice per month
  • Ability to travel to Coventry to attend teaching sessions at Coventry University, one day per week
