Main Responsibilities:

This role will allow the post holder to train to BEng level Engineering Apprentice by undertaking a structured training programme of academic study and Project work in order to gain the required skills and knowledge to support Customer Sales, Continuous Improvement as well as the Operations function. It will provide full Engineering support to ensure conforming and cost-effective products and services are delivered to the Customer.

Key Tasks:
  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical personnel, developing knowledge of the manufacturing processes
  • Working alongside the Engineering, Quality and Operational teams
  • To undertake and successfully complete HNC/HND & BEng academic courses throughout the training period, achieving the academic grades and practical skills in order to entitle yearly progression leading to the award of a suitable Degree qualification in Engineering
  • To maintain a logbook (to the required standards as determined by the training provider) over the duration of the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned
  • Learning and understanding the importance of Health and safety within the workspace and the College
  • To develop the skills to construct or modify processes, tools and equipment from verbal instructions and drawings to a high degree of precision
  • Interpretation and understanding of technical specifications (e.g. drawings, models, process specs) and conversion into manufacturing instructions
  • Providing engineering support to resolving day to day problems within agreed remit.
  • Maintaining configuration control of the Engineering data through the change process
  • Deploy problem solving techniques using recognised business improvement methodology
  • Produce engineering planning routings on the VRP system and ensure compliance on the shop floor
  • Support the preparation of quotes / estimates for new work from a variety of different customers (where applicable)
  • Gain understanding of Aerospace process controls and supporting documentation (e.g. FAIR, PFMEA, Control plans, Inspection plans)
  • Develop understanding of the Company Operating systems (e.g., ERP System, Engineering Drawing, Manufacturing)
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of process and quality documentation in accordance with drawings, models, specifications and tasks

To perform any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.

Desired qualifications

A minimum of 3 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade A* - C inc English & Maths plus completion of a Level 3 Engineering course.

Future prospects

Permanent role to be available upon completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
