Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship – Software Engineering Apprentice

What you’ll be doing:
You will be a member of the Software Development team based at the Thales site in Cheadle, near Manchester, and will have the opportunity to work with people at Thales sites across the UK and overseas.
Key responsibilities will include; the development of Human Computer Interfaces, Acoustic processing, Autonomy and Middleware software products using industry standard tools and methods.
We offer our Software Engineering apprenticeships across our defence and transport businesses.
You will help to:
• Define our solution by working with Systems Engineering to develop requirements and a test strategy
• Develop our systems by working as a member of a project team to deliver a high quality, robust software deliverable that meets customer requirements, on time and within budget
• Support our systems by working with customer support functions to ensure that currently deployed software products are maintained on both land and at sea
• Build our strategy by working with software architects to ensure that skills, technology and ways of working for the future are developed
Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a Software Engineering Apprentice you will be studying towards a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions, following the Software Engineering Pathway. This is a Gold accredited programme by Tech Partnership Degrees. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will be given one day per week in which to attend Manchester Metropolitan University. For the other four days you will be working in the business, applying your university learning and gaining a breadth of experience within the software function. At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a software engineer within the Thales UK businesses. We have opportunities in Defence Mission Systems and Ground Transportation Systems.
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a degree qualification.
You will also need:
Candidates will need a minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points at A2 (Grades BCC) with a grade B in Maths and at least one STEM subject (Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics) or an equivalent e.g. BTEC DMM. They will also require five GCSEs grade A-C (4-9) including English and Maths.
