Job Details

Are you looking to develop a career in software engineering with an exciting and diverse organisation?

Starting: Spring 2022

Salary: £27,540 (£32,130 in London)

Location: Bristol, Edinburgh, Halifax, Manchester and London

Qualifications: Once you’ve successfully completed your apprenticeship, you’ll be a proficient Software Engineer.

Are you one of our engineers of the future?

Do you love analysing and solving problems? Are you fascinated by the newest tech? Do you dream of creating next-generation software with the backing of an expert team? Do you have an interest in coding? Are you a strong communicator and a great team player? Someone who’s always keen to learn and develop?

If this sounds exciting, then the Software Engineer Apprenticeship could be perfect for you.

You'll be supported by your Line Manager, in-work Buddy and Apprenticeship Learning Mentor. While you’re on the scheme, 20% of your time will be dedicated to ‘off the job learning’, which can include attending workshops, shadowing, reading and completing assignments. This means that 80% of your role will involve applying your learning to help build the Bank of the Future.

Is the Software Engineer Apprenticeship for you?

We’re looking for people with passion, people with potential. Ideally, you’ll be a fantastic collaborator who loves using data and tech to find innovative solutions to everyday problems. You’ll also be rich in logical and creative thinking skills – and detailed and organised in your approach.

In return, we’ll offer you a competitive package which includes salary, bonus, a generous pension contribution, an attractive path of progression and flex cash to spend on a host of benefits to suit your lifestyle. At Lloyds Banking Group, we have a long track record of flexible working, and we’re always open to new ways of improving our people’s work-life balance, therefore open to discussion on working patterns and working hours.

What you’ll learn on the Software Engineer Apprenticeship

In addition to learning about our existing technologies, you’ll also provide support for the critical services we provide to our customers. Staying curious is important in this line of work. As a team, it’s essential that we keep our finger on the pulse of recent or upcoming developments in the world of tech.

Day to day, you’ll learn how to write code and operate at all stages of the software development lifecycle. We’ll also teach you how to build, lead and deploy that code into customer and business environments.

The work you could be doing

  • Testing code and analysing results
  • Understanding the structure of our programmes inside and out in order to identify and resolve issues
  • Building simple data models and software designs
  • Developing skills in agile ways of working
