About the apprenticeship


Principal Job Purpose
 You will work with our staff to support services users and carry out personal care tasks, as specified in the care plan.
 You will work to support and enhance the independence of the Service User, demonstrating respect, dignity and value.
 You will remain vigilant for signs of distress or anxiety, any deterioration in physical and/or mental health and report these.
 You will learn about how our services are run and contribute to making sure they go to plan and what to do if they don't.
 You will share best practice with your peers to suggest ways of providing best practice support.
 Attend to personal tasks, such as supporting Services Users in/out of bed, eating, drinking, dressing etc.
 Support with domestic tasks such as maintaining the cleanliness of their homes, preparing meals etc.
 Actively encourage Service Users, dependent on capabilities to participate in Social Activities.
 Assist management to maintain good relationships with those involved as part of the care package.

Entry Requirement
 Minimum age requirement of 18.
 Live within Blaenau Gwent, or ability to travel independently to work locations.
Hours of Work
 30 Hours, shift pattern will be over a 7 day period.
 Based across Blaenau Gwent.
 Apprenticeship duration is for 2 years.
 Starting salary scale 2 £18,198 pro rata



This role will work across our services to help support our staff to deliver front line services which support the independence of the person, support and maintain safety in the environment, and enable people to achieve their full potential in living independently. Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
