This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of a large-scale digital transformation of Sedgemoor District Council. The approach at Sedgemoor is to create new integrated technology solutions using the very latest technology products.

Sedgemoor want to ensure end user experience translates to usable and modern customer-based solutions to help provide effective and efficient service delivery. Working within the Information Systems team, specifically supporting the Customer Access Programme (CAP), you will be working within this programme on a number of software engineering-based projects.

These projects will make a real difference to not only their employees but the community as a whole. On a day-to-day basis you will be part of an agile development team working with existing team members supporting and enabling these new products.

The Role

You will be a member of the wider IS Team delivering excellent service to customers, and will use specialist skills and knowledge as required supporting colleagues and customers. You will work flexibly and maximise efficiency, supporting continuous improvement alongside testing products within the team.

This role is an opportunity to study for a qualification as an IS Software Tester whilst gaining on the job experience within a dynamic systems environment. Using structured testing techniques you will assist in designing test conditions and carrying out reviews on product functionality and security requirements. You will assist in the analysis and creation of test plans and test data, as well recording test results and helping to maintain test records

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain professional study of the apprenticeship course and modular assignments, including any required courses to complete at college
  • To operate in accordance with designated work processes for achieving measurable improvements in delivery of customer and product testing requirements, in particular to the IS service
  • To undertake tasks and work packages identified in the Support Desk as required, using structured testing techniques
  • To assist in the design of test conditions and carry out reviews in line with product functionality and security requirements, and assist in the analysis and creation of test plans and test data
  • To assist in the range of testing techniques e.g. Functional/non-Functional, system, unit, integration, usability, performance, stress, acceptance etc
  • To accurately record test results and assist in maintaining test records and results
  • To maintain a sound knowledge of technology, systems, process, and data models currently in use, and accurately record test results and assist in maintaining test records/results
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties where required

Additional Info:
  • Starting salary of £9,780, This will be reviewed every 6 months. With increments leading a salary of £17,613 in the final 6 months of the 24-month apprenticeship

  • A good working knowledge of PC's, associated operating systems and devices as well as the Microsoft Office toolset, including troubleshooting

Desired qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 GCSE's at grade C/4 or above including maths and English (or equivalent)
  • 2 A levels in related subject or equivalent (for example a Level 3 BTEC)


Future prospects

  • Upon completion of the apprenticeship you will gain a level 4 Software Testing apprenticeship qualification
