Medical Laboratory Assistant - Point of Care Testing

Band 3 - Salary £19,737 - £21,142

12 month fixed term contract, Full time 37.5 hours per week - Core hours

The Point of Care department resides within one of the largest Biochemistry departments in the country and we are looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Point of Care Testing team at the Oxford Road site.

Point of Care Testing resides within the Directorate Department of Biochemistry, under the Division of Laboratory Medicine and we are looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our POCT team. We have opportunities at our Oxford Road site which together with Wythenshawe and Trafford form one of the largest NHS Biochemistry Laboratories in the country. We are looking for candidates with knowledge in POCT and an interest in quality to assist in building on our excellence and sustain and expand our accreditation across all MFT sites going forward.

The successful candidates will support the delivery and development of both new and existing POCT services across MFT ensuring that the service is safe, cost effective and complies with current POCT UKAS standards. You will join the Lead POCT Coordinator, a team of Senior and Specialist Biomedical Scientists and support staff to assist in the day to day running of POCT across the Trust.

The post will be based at the Oxford Road Campus; however, you will be expected to attend the other sites for meetings and service requirements.

POCT, NHS laboratory and hospital experience are desirable, however, full training will be provided. Candidates must be in possession of an appropriate science NVQ level3, HCS Apprenticeship level 2 certificate of achievement level 1 or equivalent experience.

Although the post is core hours and does not include shift work, there may be exceptional circumstances where you may be asked to alter your working pattern as a result of an urgent service need.

The department has full HCPC training status for pre and post registration IBMS portfolios and full ISO 15189 accreditation and 22870 accreditation for the Wythenshawe site.
