Fairytale Forest Day Nursery are a rural day nursery in Pulborough, West Sussex for 2 to 4 year olds, where children are encouraged to learn through play, inspired by nature and the environment!'

Job description  

At Fairytale Forest Day Nursery we are a small team who are passionate about our work with the children. We would love to welcome a new Apprentice to our setting. and to support their learning through play and inspire by nature and the magical environment.

The role requires caring for all the children's care needs and to support their learning through play and inspire by nature and the magical environment.

 We are looking for someone who enjoys spending time with a variety of aged children and is willing to learn the entire job role. You will also be working towards gaining a childcare qualification that includes the study of children's development.

 Some of the duties you will undertake will include:

  • Supervising children’s play and learning activities.
  • Supporting children's hygiene routines.
  • Completing children's learning and development files to a high standard.
  • Cooking and assisting with food preparation for lunch and tea occasionally.
  • Baking with the children.
  • Assisting at meal times and with feeding.
  • Contributing to planned programmes of activities.
  • Liaising with parents and carers.
  • Following Health and Safety at all times.
  • Working as part of a team to set-up the rooms and clear down at the end of the day plus cleaning duties.

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Childcare Practitioner Apprenticeship. Your standard will be delivered by Babcock Training who will support your learning and development throughout your Apprenticeship. This will involve a Regional Trainer having one to one meeting with you on a regular basis to deliver the training and guide you through your Apprenticeship.

Future Prospects  

Once completed, the Apprenticeship may lead you to further your career and progress to a Level 3.

Skills required  

The potential candidate needs to have good communication skills, be able to work in a team and use their own initiative, be enthusiastic and willing to learn, be willing to care for all the children's care needs. Must be willing to take direction from the staff in the room.

Qualifications required  

GSCE Maths, English and ICT A-C preferred but not essential. If these are not already held you will complete functional skills alongside the Apprenticeship.

Personal qualities  

Have an interest in children and their learning and development. Be polite, reliable, punctual at all times and use own initiative. Be committed to work hard to complete a early years apprenticeship.

Due to the location you will be required to have your own reliable transport.

Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices’ chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in maths and English
Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment
The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role. Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face-to-face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.
