Job Details

Do you want to grow your career and be part of a team solving critical challenges? Do you want the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s leading experts in electricity transmission? Do you have the drive and motivation to think critically, and develop into a world class engineer?

You could be an Engineering and Asset Management Higher Apprentice working at the heart of Electricity Transmission’s engineering function, making big technical decisions about the future of the transmission system.

We have two slightly different but equally exciting roles that you could be suitable for.

Asset Lifecycle is at the forefront of the National Grid Electricity Transmission (ET) business. Asset Lifecycle oversees the entire transmission system, for the entire lifecycle. Development, build, operation and decommissioning.

Transmission Engineer to assure the project design, delivery and recovery process for scheme types, including faults and investigations and cyber assurance activities. Ensuring for the particular area of engineering expertise, that the business has optimal scope and solutions, for each individual project/incident investigation. To ensure the application of the highest standards of Safety, Quality, Sustainability, Environmental and Resilience are considered in the process of maintaining high power system reliability.

In every moment energy is rolling over hills, winding through valleys, travelling across the country, and finding its way to our fingertips, on demand – and it’s up to us to keep people connected.

Through our energy transmission network, we connect millions safely and reliably to the energy they need. It’s this purpose that drives us forward. Join us and, together, we’ll work to build a more sustainable, better connected future.

National Grid touches the lives of almost everyone in the UK, with an energy network that stretches across the Atlantic. We’re an international team, and our work underpins the lives of millions of people. Feet forwards, head up, and eyes bright, we’re working hard to create value for people today – and shape the future of energy tomorrow.

In the UK, we don’t generate or sell energy – we join the dots to get energy from A to B. From making a cup of tea in the morning, to keeping the lights on in hospitals, our electricity network puts power in the hands of people. Without it, the world as we know it would grind to a halt.

Apprentices are at the heart of our ambitions, which is why we have been committed to investing in the futures of new talent for over 40 years. From engineers to our commercial and head office roles, there’s so many directions a career here could take. And, with new technology and innovation evolving at a rapid rate, there’s never been a better time to be part of our team.

A National Grid Apprenticeship isn’t just about getting a job – it’s an opportunity to join a new generation of talent, charged with the destiny of shaping the future of energy. We’ll help you develop your skills through a combination of practical work and academic study, all the while providing you with the passion, skills and knowledge you need to power all our futures.
