Join our Chemistry Technician Degree Apprenticeship and you can make an immediate impact, powering the nation today whilst helping to build a sustainable energy future for tomorrow.
“I decided to take up an Apprenticeship with EDF rather than go to University after school. I’m so glad I did, there’s nothing out there like it.”
Sam Turner, Apprentice
The Chemistry Technician Degree Apprenticeship Programme:
We’re recruiting for apprentices to join our Chemistry Technician training programme, working as part of one of the most exciting projects at EDF: the construction of Hinkley Point C (HPC) power station in Somerset.
During the course of this four-year Degree Apprenticeship, you’ll learn from our industry-leading experts and gain valuable experience, whilst studying for a BSc Degree in Chemistry. You can expect on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience you simply can't get on campus.
Throughout the apprenticeship you’ll train for our Chemistry Technician role, learning plant chemistry analytical skills and a range of plant chemistry safety knowledge and skills.
Training, development and support for you:
The Chemistry Technician Degree Apprenticeship course is primarily taught through tutor-supported online study, part-time over four years.
You’ll also join EDF’s future operational HPC Chemistry team and get involved in all areas of plant chemistry, including plant sampling and analysis, plant chemical dosing and plant chemical safety. The HPC design includes many UK-unique chemistry design features, which provides you with a fantastic grounding for your future career.
A University coach and a workplace supervisor will support you in your work and studies, as you follow the Level 6 Laboratory Scientist Apprenticeship Standard, and develop the broad scientific knowledge, skills and behaviours required for a career in the chemical industry.
At the end of the programme, you’ll be awarded a BSc (Hons) Chemical Science degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as a Level 6 degree apprenticeship, to compliment your EDF training and experience.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and experience the first operation of the newest generation of nuclear power in the UK. Within the chemistry team you’ll have opportunities for onward development, into roles such as a chemistry engineer and numerous other careers within EDF.
