Join the Ringway team working on our Worcestershire & Gloucestershire term maintenance contracts.

Although the local office will be in Malvern the Ringway sites will be across Worcestershire & Gloucestershire County Councils regions.

Whilst on the scheme, you will follow the Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprentice Standard, which is a formal degree apprenticeship.

The majority of your tuition will be via day release with the University of the West of England. You'll also be expected to study elements of your degree during time at work.

Whilst at work you will be assigned a mentor, who will guide and support you through your day-to-day work activities; you will also be enrolled onto an internal development programme to support you to attain the knowledge, skills and behaviour that will help you successfully achieve your apprenticeship.

As you progress through your apprenticeship you will gain more knowledge and experience. During your apprenticeship your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing an understanding of the procurement process to realise best value whilst maintain quality and safety standards
  • Drafting of subcontracts
  • Develop relationships with supply chain partners and Clients
  • Assisting the operations teams with measurement, take offs and valuations of subcontract works
  • Assist the operations team with the preparation of applications for payment
  • Assisting the operations teams with the management of costs and change management
  • Forensic reviews of records to support the Commercial Team with any potential disputes
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of the Company Accounting systems to facilitate analysis of project costs
  • Embrace new technologies in order that the commercial role develops within an ever changing environment
  • Proactively support community engagement
  • Proactively support environmentally sustainable operational and business improvements

Desired skills

The following skills are essential:
  • Excellent numeracy and IT skills.
  • Driving licence (required as you will be visiting sites)

The following skills are desired, but not essential:
  • An interest in construction and construction law.
  • Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Enjoy a challenge & have good problem-solving skills.
  • Organised & the ability to multi-task.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work to deadlines
  • An effective communicator, both oral and written with a good command of English language

  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm for engineering in the Highways and Construction sector.

Desired qualifications

Apprentices should be engaged and motivated, with a minimum of Grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics at GCSE and at least two A levels or a Higher National Certificate (HNC) Construction.

Tariff points:112

GCSE:For all applicants, Grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent. Please note the University does not accept Level 2 Key Skills, Functional Skills or Certificates in Adult Numeracy and Literacy as suitable alternatives to GCSEs.

A-level subjects:No specific subjects required. Points from General Studies and AS-Level subjects (not taken onto full A-Level) can be included towards overall tariff. You must have a minimum of two A-Levels.

EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma:No specific subjects required.

Access:Achievement of the Access to HE Diploma; to include 15 level 3 credits at merit.

Baccalaureate IB:No specific subjects required.

Future prospects

We are looking for a long-term relationship with our apprentices and we have a long-term career structure in mind, whereby we see the apprentice developing into senior roles within our business as it grows. With this in mind, in addition to Quantity Surveying we will provide our apprentices with exposure to general management and business development activities.

Things to consider

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
