Advanced Apprenticeship - Automotive

As an Advanced Apprentice (Level 3) – Automotive, you could be based in our Product Engineering Operations, Special Operations or Design teams. 

 

Product Engineering Operations - underpin technical innovation and product delivery with engineering delivery, tools and processes and specialist technical services to deliver our world-class products. A diverse team, Product Engineering Operations harnesses a variety of skill sets, from information management and data analytics to building and testing prototypes. Product Engineering Operations is fundamentally involved at every stage of the engineering process and is driving an exciting transformation in the way we engineer and deliver our products with class-leading technology and quality. You will work at the forefront of vehicle technology, support test developments to existing models, and help to build entirely new experimental concepts. You will develop a variety of knowledge, skills and behaviours such as team working and problem-solving so that you can play your part in the product creation of our next generation of vehicles. 

 

Special Operations - is responsible for the most luxury and specialist vehicles within the premium brands of Jaguar and Land Rover. We’re responsible for bespoke customisations, armoured vehicles, classic restorations of iconic vehicles. We’re also specialists in preparing vehicles for events. Apprentices based in Special Operations will support maintaining our vehicles which includes basic servicing and maintenance, pre-delivery inspections, engine/gearbox changes or profiling of panels and diagnostic work. Apprentices may also get involved in preparing vehicles for our key events including motor shows, press drives and magazine shoots. 

 

Design – apprentices will be part of the team responsible for creating models for Design, within our manufacturing team as a CNC (computerised numerical control) technicians or composite development engineers; the hard modelling team as model makers; the trim team as development trimmers; or the paint department as paint technicians. 

 

Manufacturing – you will learn to use a variety of materials and methods to manufacture components and properties which are crucial to the model creation process. Learning to prepare, operate and optimise a range of large CNC machines will be at the core of the training. 

 

Model Shop – within the hard modelling department, you will learn to use a variety of materials and methods within the model creation process including the assembly of both production and bespoke components, doing the necessary modifications to make them fit as required. 

 

Paint Shop – as a paint technician you will support Design with the paint application across a range of model components up to full-size exterior clay models and full-size interior models through to production vehicles. This is a highly technical role, working with a vast number of materials. 

 

Development – the development trim role is a high-end craftmanship position. The team work closely with the colour and materials designers to create the various trimmed items to support the design process. Hand making all soft trim components that go into both Jaguar and Land Rover design properties. 

 

Full training will be given to ensure apprentices attain the required skill level by the end of their apprenticeship. Join us and you’ll learn from a team of experts doing pioneering work in Product Engineering, Special Operations or Design. 

 

The Apprenticeship 

 

This Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) is a four-year programme, delivered under standards approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education (IfATE). This exciting programme will develop your practical skills and cultivate the knowledge you need for your role. This is all achieved whilst developing your knowledge, skills and business behaviours such as team working and problem-solving.  

  

The pathway on this level 3 apprenticeship that you will follow will depend upon the area of the business in which you will be based. You will be asked for your preference ahead of attending an assessment with us.  

 

You will learn how to work safely at all times and make a technical contribution to either the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of our products or equipment. 

 

You can expect to spend a significant amount of your first year at the training provider: Warwick Trident College (part of WCG- Warwickshire College Group), Trident Park, Poseidon Way, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick CV34 6SW. During this first year you’ll complement your studies by working at a Jaguar Land Rover plant alongside members of our skilled teams. During your second and third years you will be predominantly working in the plant, and you’ll continue your studies at the training provider on a one day per week basis with the constant guidance and support of a WBLM (Work Based Learning Manager). 

 

Your fourth year will see you complete your end-point assessment and achieve your Level 3 Apprenticeship, ready for an amazing career in engineering.  

What’s required 

 

To be eligible for our Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) programme you will need to demonstrate a strong motivation for working in our engineering function and a good understanding of a level 3 'hands on' apprenticeship and the learning and training that is involved. You will also need to meet our academic entry criteria: 

 

GCSE Maths and English Language at level 4 (C) or higher and in addition 3 further GCSEs at level 4 (C) or higher to include one STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) subject or an Engineering vocational qualification level 3 90 credits/540 GLH or higher.
