Mentor Apprenticeship

Support for Pupils:

• Develop appropriate positive and supportive relationships with pupils
• Be aware of the differing needs of pupils
• Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans
• Have high expectations which stretch, motivate and challenge pupils and promote self-esteem and independence
• Work 1:1 with students when in escalation
• Be a key worker for specific students

Support for the Teacher:

• In liaison with the teacher, use strategies to support pupils to achieve learning goals, adapting resources as an when necessary
• Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed, paying particular attention to those directly relating to their EHCP targets
• Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers

Support for the Curriculum:

• Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil needs
• Undertake programmes of intervention, recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher

Support for Reach:

• Undertake training and CPD as required
• Appreciate and support the role of colleagues and other professionals in external services and build constructive relationships with them
• Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required
• Assist with the supervision of pupils
• Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for pupil/s under the supervision of the teacher
• Be a role model for pupils and colleagues in terms of behaviour and attitude
• Be punctual and professional at all times
• Maintain confidentiality
• Adhere to policies and regulations including those relating to employee conduct, equal opportunities, health and safety, safeguarding and child protection

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

• Have experience of working with vulnerable people in a similar environment.
• Good personal organisation e.g. time management
• Be experienced in working with smaller nurture groups to boost
• Attainment
• Experience of working with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties

Personal qualities

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to show initiative in a range of situations
• Ability to interact positively with pupils, parents and colleagues

Desired qualifications

• GCSE maths and English grade C/4 or equivalent

Future prospects

• After achieving the Level 5 Coaching Professional Apprenticeship, there may be a possibility of a permanent position for the right person
